To broaden students' international perspectives and deepen their understanding of the latest academic developments and campus life at UK universities, on the evening of March 27th, Professor Jo Shien Ng from the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Dr Yichuan Wang from the Management School at the University of Sheffield visited SBC-USST. They delivered progression information sessions to nearly 100 students, offering detailed insights into the University of Sheffield's programme structure, entry requirements, scholarship opportunities, and student life.

Professor Jo Shien Ng began by highlighting the global impact of electrical and electronic engineering, sharing the University of Sheffield's academic heritage and career prospects in the field. She noted that electronics and semiconductor chips represent a major trend in current professional development, offering significant opportunities for innovation. Drawing on her own academic journey, she encouraged students to embrace hands-on practice, pursue innovation, plan their career paths early, and make full use of university resources to enhance their competitiveness.

Dr Yichuan Wang focused on the theme Customising Large Language Models for Problem-Solving Tasks. Starting with foundational concepts, he demonstrated an AI model co-developed with his students, vividly showcasing the practical application of artificial intelligence in digital marketing. He then systematically introduced the Management School's curriculum delivery model, scholarship application criteria, and student support systems, all designed to support personalised growth in digital marketing and business practice.

Progression information sessions

The interactive Q&A session was lively, with students enthusiastically asking questions about programme selection, research directions, the application process, and interdisciplinary integration. Both speakers responded thoughtfully and in detail. A student in Mechanical Engineering: This session has given me a much deeper understanding of the prospects for engineering in the AI era, and has strengthened my determination to pursue further study.

Gu Ying from the SBC Overseas Services Team noted that the University of Sheffield, as one of SBC's UK partner universities, has long attracted many outstanding students for postgraduate study. With the support of both institutions, a number of students have successfully obtained scholarships, demonstrating strong academic ability. She encouraged students to proactively engage with the College's resources and to strategically plan their progression pathways.

The information session provided students with a valuable platform for face-to-face dialogue with academics from a world-leading university, effectively broadening their international outlook. Looking ahead, the College will continue to deepen its partnerships with prestigious overseas institutions, bring in high-quality educational resources, and support students in achieving both academic and professional advancement in an increasingly globalised world.
