On September 19, 2025 Opening Ceremony and the First Lesson for Freshers of SBC was held in the Grand Hall of the Jungong Road Campus. CAI Yonglian, Vice President of USST, Dean of SBC, LI Yan, Secretary of the Party Committee of SBC, ZHANG Zheng, Vice Dean and Acting Executive Dean of SBC, CAI Hui, Deputy Party Secretary and Associate Dean of SBC, as well as representatives of the faculty and over 500 new students of the Class of 2025 attended the ceremony.

The Opening Ceremony

The ceremony commenced with a video showcasing the two-week Fuxing Elites Camp for the new students. As a signature initiative of SBC's adaptive education framework, the project is designed to seamlessly integrate academic induction with physical training. Through a series of distinctive activities—including physical training, academic demo classes, and recreational sports events—it facilitated students' transition into the international campus environment while identifying a cohort of outstanding participants. LI Yan and ZHANG Zheng presented certificates of excellence to the top participants, congratulating them on their achievements and encouraging them to build on this foundation as they embark on their future academic journeys.

GAO Zhengqi, representing the Class of 2025, shared the joy and anticipation of joining SBC, expressing a hope to explore boldly and innovate fearlessly alongside fellow newcomers to carve out their own unique achievements within the international environment. Luka Kokhanov, a current international student of SBC, then reflected on his academic journey and expressed eagerness to organise and participate in diverse cross-cultural activities with new students, inviting them to collectively appreciate the richness of traditional Chinese culture. GU Wen, Class of 2008, now Head of NielsenIQ (NIQ) RMS, drawing on his personal growth and professional experience, encouraged students to remain focused on their studies while also courageously venturing out into the world. He emphasised the value of experiencing diverse cultures to broaden international perspectives and continuously advance beyond their limits.

Representatives delivered speeches

After the screening of the USST promotional video, CAI Yonglian delivered the First Lesson to the 2025 freshmen. The session began with an interactive segment on the theme “The Impressive USST in Your Eyes.” She said that she was proud with the growth and transformation of the freshmen after the challenging Fuxing Elites Camp. Then, she vividly told the freshmen about the profound cultural heritage, internationalised educational features, and the achievements made in recent years in the integration of science and education and innovative practice of USST and SBC, by focusing on multiple themes such as “USST and SBC You Have Come to”, “How to Spend Four Years Here”, and “Your Future Prospects”, and combining the development history of the school and its talent cultivation philosophy. She encouraged the students to adapt to university life as soon as possible, plan their studies scientifically, and actively participate in practical activities.

Finally, CAI Yonglian addressed all the freshmen, urging them to cherish their youth, set up ambitions, write an unregrettable youth with an enterprising attitude, and strive to become the new generation capable of shouldering the great responsibility of national rejuvenation, true dream chasers and dream fulfillers.

The First Lesson for Freshers and the two-week Fuxing Elites, as a cornerstone of SBC's induction, serve not only as a vital bridge for SBC students to adapt to the international campus environment, but also as a formative camp that strengthens resilience and shapes character. Armed with these gains and personal growth, the Class of 2025 is now poised to embark on their university journey, ready to write their own distinctive and remarkable chapters.
