The visit began with a roundtable discussion between the delegation and Atelier I-N-D-J. BAO Wei introduced the history of the studio’s establishment, team structure and key design achievements. Atelier I-N-D-J was founded in Shanghai in 2009 by British architectural designer Ian Douglas-Jones. Its representative works include the design for the Audi Beijing Auto Show 2024, the Chow Sang Sang Chengdu Roadshow Pavilion, and the interior design of the Suzhou W Hotel. The studio has won multiple international design awards and engages in a wide range of disciplines, including architecture, spatial, product, and furniture design, establishing itself as an award-winning multidisciplinary design studio. CAI Hui expressed her sincere gratitude to Atelier I-N-D-J and introduced SBC’s educational philosophy and talent cultivation model. She also extended a cordial invitation to the team of Atelier I-N-D-J to visit the College for further exchanges.

Ian Douglas-Jones, founder of the studio, joined the meeting via video link. He warmly welcomed the delegation of SBC and expressed great anticipation for talented SBC students to join them. Dr. Adrian Chong provided an overview of the School of Engineering and Computing, highlighting the achievements of engineering students in various competitions. Both sides discussed potential cooperation based on the College’s educational objectives and the studio’s development needs. They expressed hope that this visit could serve as a foundation for future collaboration, including targeted talent cultivation based on project demands, thereby promoting precise and effective employment opportunities for students.

Discussion between both sides

The delegation toured the studio after the meeting. Student representatives engaged in lively discussions with studio members regarding the design works on display. ZHANG Yifan, a senior student in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, expressed that the visit allowed him to witness the stunning visual effects resulting from the fusion of modern technology and architectural artistry, inspiring him to reconsider and redirect his career aspirations.
