SBC Hosts “Fuxing Innovation Season” Lecture Series

SBC held the Fuxing Innovation Seasonlecture series at the Fuxing Road Campus, in alignment with the strategy of integrating education, science and technology, and talent development. The lecture series aimed to deepen the Colleges overarching theme of “Enterprise and Innovation”, cultivating versatile talents with international perspectives and entrepreneurial abilities. The series invited expert mentors from USST and other institutes and pioneering alumni entrepreneurs to deliver lectures, focusing on academic research, entrepreneurial practice, and brand innovation. Nearly 400 students and staff from across the College participated, creating a new wave of enthusiasm for innovation and entrepreneurship.

First Lecture: Decoding the Challenge CupCompetition

The series commenced with a student-focused session decoding the Challenge Cupcompetition. Associate Professor Liu Ting, Deputy Secretary of USST’s Youth League Committee, delivered a keynote lecture on Special Training for the Challenge CupNational Undergraduate Academic Science and Technology Works Competition.Drawing on her extensive experience in coaching competition teams, she systematically explained key strategies for topic selection, team building, project writing, and achievement transformation, supported by detailed data analysis and case studies. Professor Liu offered a three-dimensional analysis of past outstanding entries in terms of innovation, scientific rigour, and practical application. Many students commented that this lecture not only clarified the path to competition preparation but also deepened their understanding of the broader societal value of academic research.

Advancing Thinking: Sharpening Core Competencies for Business Pitching

The second lecture focused on entrepreneurial practice. Associate Professor Shuai Ping from Shanghai Universitydelivered a talk titled Delivering a Successful Pitch: Business Model Innovation and Entrepreneurship Thinking.She guided students through the logical structure of business pitching and the practical significance of business model innovation. Professor Shuai introduced concepts such as value chains, value networks, and value constellations, illustrating through diagrams how entrepreneurial projects transition from laboratory experiments to market-ready businesses, and how risks are transferred. She also shared a storyboard guide for pitching, advising students on how to effectively showcase their projects. Through in-depth case analysis, students were immersed in a full-cycle entrepreneurial journey covering user insight, business model design, and fundraising strategy development, prompting them to reflect on innovation in business models.

Breaking Barriers: The Global Narrative of Chinese Brands

The series concluded with an entrepreneurial sharing session by an alumnus. Yu Haoyuan, founder of the StarryInk brand and a SBC graduate in 2021, delivered a lecture titled Let the World ‘Write’ in Chinese Colours: Innovation and Breaking Barriers in Ink Branding.He shared his entrepreneurial journey from university laboratories to the international market, presenting materials such as product development sketches and footage from overseas exhibitions. Yu highlighted the creation of the award-winning Cold Brew Inkseries, which successfully integrated plant-based natural dye extraction technology with modern colour aesthetics, pioneering a new model in ink manufacturing and establishing a cultural export innovation case. During the interactive discussion, Yu provided the students with practical insights into career planning from an entrepreneurs perspective, outlined the roles within start-up teams, and offered hands-on advice on key issues faced in the critical early stages of entrepreneurship.

The Fuxing Innovation Seasonseries captured the pulse of contemporary innovation and entrepreneurship education, creating an integrated educational model linking conceptual guidance, academic enlightenment, and practical empowerment. It established a progressive capability-building system. Looking ahead, the College will continue to deepen its commitment to fostering “Enterprise and Innovation”, expand its international innovation resources, and build broader platforms for student practice, helping more seeds of innovation to take root and thrive at Fuxing Road Campus, enabling the brilliance of Chinese youth to shine on the global stage.
