With a light autumn breeze setting the stage for new beginnings, on August 31, dual-registered freshmen of Class of 2024 arrived at SBC from all over the country, bringing with their dreams and aspirations. They are about to embark on an international academic journey, writing their own stories of youth at the Fuxing Road campus, injecting vibrant energy into the College's cultures.
Passing on SBCers’ sense of responsibility
Student volunteers, dressed in uniform, were stationed at various registration points in the teaching buildings or shuttling between the dormitories. With great enthusiasm, they helped new students carry their luggage, patiently guided them through the registration procedures, and answered their questions. These volunteers embodied “Responsible Leadership”, one of the College's overarching themes, through their actions, passing on the spirit of helping others. With the careful assistance of both faculty and volunteers, the freshmen smoothly completed the registration process and gained a more vivid understanding and appreciation of the campus life ahead.
Zhou Sibei, a new student in Events Management, proudly holding her welcome gifts from SBC, shared her excitement: “As I step into SBC, my heart is filled with anticipation and dreams. This is where my journey begins, and I will work hard sincerely heart and keep exploring in my studies. I hope to become a better version of myself in the days to come!” Liu Qu, a volunteer of Class of 2023 in Business Management, offered advice to the freshmen: “There are times when we work hard to succeed. I seemed to see my younger self from last year through the dim figure of the new students. Their stories are just beginning at the tail end of summer, and I hope they will improve and grow as they embrace every up and down in life!”
Setting up youngsters’ goals and aspirations
The exhibition board reading “A fresh start for you freshmen” catched the eye, as one enters the lobby of the teaching building, reflecting the College’s heartfelt wish and mutual welcome between these students and the prestigious college. The diverse activities at the check-in spots attracted many to stop and engage. They wrote down their hopes and aspirations for university life on postcards; another exhibition board featured a map of China, where they took photos to capture these precious moments of growth. Their first campus photos were then connected to their hometowns using threads, weaving a network symbolizing unity and friendship. The “Campus Trending Topics” board showcased real-time hot topics, further enhancing the sense of belonging and campus culture for the new students. SBC is the launchpad for their dreams, and together, they will explore the unknown, composing chapters of youth and dreams.
Inheriting the spirit of USST
Cai Yonglian, Vice President of USST and Dean of SBC, visited SBC and inspected the registration, sending greetings and encouragements to the staff and volunteers. Along with other college executives and tutors, President Cai toured the registration lobby and student dormitories, distributing thoughtful welcome packages. “Where are you from?”“How was your journey here?”“Have you encounter any problems during registration?”“Are you getting used to the food in the canteen?” She asked as she warmly conversed with the new students, carefully listening to their expectations and experiences. She encouraged everyone to bravely chase their dreams and write brilliant new storoes during their time at university.
The College held a parents’ meeting in T201 to foster strong communication and fully leverage the joint efforts between the College and parents in student development. Cai Hui, Deputy Party Secretary and Associate Dean of SBC, introduced the College’s history, educational themes, student training and development, and collaboration between school and parents. She also highlighted SBC’s remarkable achievements in teaching, curriculum development, international accreditations, academic research, international exchange, further studies, innovation and entrepreneurship, and student development. In addition, she provided detailed explanations regarding student academics, attendance, further education, employment, and postgraduate examinations. Gao Jiaqi, Head of the Student Management Department gave insights into student management and carefully addressed parents’ concerns.
Today, the Class of 2024 officially become part of the Fuxing Road campus. We wish them success as they face new challenges, create new achievements, and step closer to their dreams, one step at a time. Welcome, Class of 2024!
