The Opening Ceremony and First Day of the Third Training Conference of the High-quality Development of Sino-foreign Cooperative Education held at the Sino-British College

Aimed at advancing the high-quality development of Sino-foreign Cooperative Education and building a platform for communication and mutual improvement, the Chinese-Foreign Joint Education Committee (CJEC) hosted the Third Training Conference of the High-quality Development of Sino-foreign Cooperative Education: Innovative Development of International Education in the New Era, co-organized by the Sino-British College of USST, University of Michigan-Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute and Zhejiang University-University of Edinburgh Institute from 31March to 3 April in Shanghai and Zhejiang Province.

On 31 March, the opening ceremony and first-day training of the Third Training Conference of the High-quality Development of Sino-foreign Cooperative Education were held at SBC. MENG Tao, Secretary-General of the CJEC and Dean of the International Business School of Dongbei University of Finance and Economics, CAI Yonglian, Vice President of USST and Dean of the Sino-British College, LI Yan, Party Secretary of SBC, SHAN Yanguang, Vice Dean of SBC, and CAI Hui, Deputy Party Secretary and Associate Dean of SBC attended the ceremony, along with 94 guests including leadership, experts, project leaders, professors and lecturers, and colleagues related to international exchange and academic affairs from 52 cooperative education institutions in China. HE Xin from the Secretariat of the CJEC presided over the ceremony.

CAI Yonglian, representing USST, warmly welcomed the leadership and experts and expressed heartfelt thanks to the CJEC for its long-term support and assistance to the internationalization of USST in her speech. She stated that SBC-USST holding the Third Training Conference reflects the support and recognition from CJEC to the College. In recent years, SBC has made significant achievements in talent cultivation, academic research, international accreditations, faculty construction, and international exchange and cooperation, significantly enhancing its recognition and international reputation, and effectively improving the employability and global competence of our graduates worldwide. She hoped that through this opportunity, sister universities and colleges could strengthen exchanges and cooperation, and share experiences in international education management and talent cultivation.

MENG Tao expressed gratitude in his speech to USST and SBC for their long-term strong support to the CJEC. He stated that as one of the initiating units of CJEC, the Sino-British College has a long history, outstanding educational advantages, and distinct characteristics, and has received widespread praise from all sectors of society for its demonstration of the one-to-N Consortium Model between USST and UK partner universities. He hoped to take this opportunity to jointly promote the development of CJEC through mutual exchange with the experts and leadership.

As a representative of the participants, GU Wei, Vice Dean of Shenzhen Audencia Financial Technology Institute, Shenzhen University, expressed her pleasure in coming to SBC. She hoped to deepen her understanding of international accreditations, talent development, international faculty construction and the deep integration of industry, education, and research in Sino-foreign cooperative education through visits to the leading institutes to continuously improve the internationalization of the College.

During the opening ceremony, SHAN Yanguang delivered a special report titled Promoting the Development of Sino-foreign Collaborative Education with High-level Accreditations”, focusing on three aspects: the overview of Sino-foreign cooperative education, the construction of the three-level evaluation and accreditation system, and the exploration and practice of the Sino-British College. He began by introducing the basic status of Sino-foreign cooperative education in China, including its types, levels, geographical distribution, cooperation countries and regions, and development trends. He noted that in the past decade, high-level Sino-foreign cooperative institutions have been established successively and continuously improving quality of international resources, gradually manifesting the effects of local internationalization. Then, the report outlined the ideology and logic behind constructing the three-level evaluation system, elucidating the principles and key indicators that should be adopted in developing the quality certification standard which conforms to the characteristics of cooperative education. Furthermore, he shared the practices and experiences of SBC in conducting accreditation including IET, CIOL and AACSB. Finally, the report highlighted the SBC’s one-to-N consortium model and its distinctive features, showcasing the significant achievements in recent years in areas such as party building, teaching achievements, courses and curricula, international accreditation, academic research, international exchange and cooperation, further education, innovation and entrepreneurship, and student development.

On the afternoon of the 31st, the parallel forum was held under the guidance of four group leaders, namely WU Wenying, Dean of the Beijing-Dublin International College at Beijing University of Technology, DAI Fuping, Party Secretary of Queen Mary University of London Engineering School of Northwestern Polytechnical University, ZHENG Zhanguo, Dean of the Silesian College of Intelligent Science and Engineering, Yanshan University, and Professor LIU Yamei from Liaoning Normal-Missouri State College of International Business, focusing on four themes, “construction of the quality assurance system and organic integration”, “diverse evaluation models of student learning and comprehensive development support system”, “opportunities and challenges faced by Sino-foreign Cooperative Education in student employment”, and “evaluation of teaching effectiveness and professional development for teachers from both Chinese and foreign sides”. They delved into common issues encountered in high-level international accreditation in Sino-foreign Cooperative Education, innovative entrepreneurship talent cultivation models, construction of international faculty teams, and deep integration of industry, education, and research.

All participants completed the first-day training at SBC, and subsequently, on April 1st and 2nd, proceeded to University of Michigan-Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute and Zhejiang University-University of Edinburgh Institute for further exchanges and learning. This training session provided a high-quality and efficient platform for communication and learning for Sino-foreign cooperative education institutions nationwide, not only deepening the connection between the Sino-British College and other cooperative education units but also providing valuable experience for the high-quality development of the College.
