On 29th March, SBC Year 3 students in Events Management designed and prepared a fair titled “Health and Wellness at SBC” on the sports field as part of the course in the programme collaborating with University of Huddersfield, given support to students’ learning assessment and business practice. Lecturers including Daniel Sdrigotti andMike Rigby attended to comment and assess the students' performance of how to manage a live event systematically and see their tactics of evaluation, negotiation, application, organisation, decoration, interaction, publicity and sale of products.

“Hello, welcome to our booth!” On the sports field, our EvM students, divided into eight groups, enthusiastically introduced their projects and products to all the students and lecturers at the fair. The student organisers tried to convey their concepts through crafts, bike-riding, painting and food, where visitors had the opportunity to feel refreshed in daily college life, physically and mentally and get gifts as well.

Daniel Sdrigotti said: “Managing a Live Event is a perfect opportunity for Year 3 EvM students to practice, to create an event, from the concept, to the application related to finance, marketing operations. We, as professors and teachers, are not telling them what to think, but they have to come up with creativity ways to find solutions and make decisions. What they will learn, what they will take with them are closely related to the need of the marketplace and further studies.”

LIU Dongni, one of the student organisers, said: “It took more than seven months to prepare for today’s fair, but something unexpected still occurred that day. We needed to improvise and solve all the problems under limited conditions. What moved me most was the mutual support and teamwork of our team. Each member in our group did his/her own duty, trying to come up with a wonderful booth.”

WU Sichen, a Year 2 student in Business Management, said: “The 8 groups used different activities to echo the main topic about health and wellness at SBC and they all did well. They successfully turned ideas into reality and improved their abilities, also producing much fun to our campus life.”

After the event, each group of the Year 3 students in Events Management took photos. The Managing a Live Event course is a new dimension to the practical teaching, aiming to let students manage events personally, bringing together all the knowledge they have learned at SBC. This not only promotes SBC’s educational quality, but also enriches the cultures and lifestyles of all at SBC.

It is worth mentioning that, the funds raised by this event will be donated to SBC Heart & Hope Volunteering Teaching Team – a charity organisation run by SBC students – to help children in impoverished areas pursue their studies and help our students develop a strong sense of social responsibility.
