Cai said that the COVID-19 had posed a huge challenge to education and online delivery had become a main mode during the pandemic. In early 2020, USST, like many other universities, made immediate solution within just two weeks by providing more than 3,000 online courses through live-stream and videos. This was not only an emergency response to cope with the pandemic, but also a presentation of Internet plus education.

Cai also said, apart from great impact, it had also brought opportunities to higher education. Both online and offline teaching have their own advantages and the mixed teaching mode gives full play to them, receiving high recognition in the post-epidemic era.

She called for efforts to: (1) standardise online delivery platforms and improve education evaluation system; (2) pilot this programme in different forms at different stages; and (3) strengthen lecturers' capability and pedagogy.

Leaders and scholars attended the meeting from University of Derby, Brunel University London, Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology, Southern Medical University, University of Nottingham Ningbo China, Xi' an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, University of Glasgow, Southwest Jiaotong University, Northwestern Polytechnical University, etc. All participants shared views and expressed a strong willingness to continue collaboration.
