As part of the programme collaborating with University of Huddersfield, our Events Management students held an I love SBC Fair on the sports field on 7th April. Sharon McElhinney, the programme leader for Events Management, Daniel Sdrigotti and other lecturers attended to comment and assess the students' professionalism in organising events, the operations process, the on-site response and results.
Hello, welcome to our booth! On the sports field, the students from Events Management enthusiastically introduced their projects and products for sale to the students and lecturers who came by. The activities were provided by eight separate groups, mostly with themes of entertainment, crafts and food. Here, students had the opportunity to reminisce about their childhood, experience advanced technology, create their own products, win prizes and learn to dance …These colourful activities definitely added another dimension of fun to campus life.
The rainy weather did not dampen the enthusiasm of the students and lecturers at the event. They enjoyed the flowers and food, participated in various entertainment activities, and some of them even experienced the world of blind people. A booth called Sensory Loss attracted a lot of attention. When it came to the concept of the event, the students said that the aim was to let more people experience the world of the blind, to understand the difficulty of living with blindness and to raise public awareness of the need to care for the blind.
Speaking about the whole event, Daniel Sdrigotti, Lecturer in Events Management, said that after six months of preparation, the students had created many unexpected surprises. They did a lot of market research and related preparations before, and each group brought their unique ideas and creativity to the event with heart and soul. The process was certainly hard work, but we were all very pleased to see so many people involved in the event, and believe that our event will be better and better.
After the event, organizers took photos and gave souvenirs with lecturers and students who came to experience the event. This series of activities of events planning is a new dimension to the practical teaching of Events Management at SBC, aiming at getting students out of the classroom and textbooks and further understanding professional knowledge through the whole process of organising real event activities by themselves. This not only promotes their professional development, but also enriches the cultural life of all at SBC.
