On the afternoon of 4th December, Second 2020 SBC Management Council Meeting was held in the SBC administration building. USST President DING Xiaodong chaired the meeting.
Due to COVID-19 travel restrictions, UK Management Council members attended via video link. The Management Council members are:Vice-President of USST, CAI Yonglian; Vice-President of USST, ZHANG Hua; Director of International Exchange Department, MA Xiaoting; Director of Finance, DIAO Jiewen; Dean of Undergraduate College and Director of Academic Affairs Office, GAN Yi; Dr Malcolm Butler, Director of Global Engagement of the University of Sheffield; Prof Peter Byers, Pro Vice-Chancellor from Liverpool John Moores University; Prof Jane Owen-Lynch, Pro Vice-Chancellor from the University of Huddersfield; Prof Chris Wigginton, Pro Vice-Chancellor from Sheffield Hallam University; and Prof John Brewer, CEO of NCUK. Professor Laura C. Bishop, Principal of SBC; LI Yan, Party Secretary of SBC, and XU Lin, Associate Dean of Administration of SBC were in attendance.
DING Xiaodong, President of USST warmly welcomed all attendants, and expressed his thanks to the contribution of partners and NCUK with the sincere greeting and best wishes. He pointed that all members made efforts to communicate actively and overcome numerous difficulties to ensure the smooth progress of the overall work in this special period. Since the Management Council Meeting was held on July 24th this year, we has made new progress and new results in the Chinese-foreign cooperatively-run school. The teachers and students have won many awards in the competitions and have continuously achieved breakthroughs in the quantity and quality of awards. President Ding emphasized that the COVID-19 could not prevent the international communication. He hoped that the two sides could make joint efforts together, further explore their respective advantages, deepen the communication and cooperation. In addition, he also offered suggestions for the next development of Sino-British College, as well as the cooperation between the UK universities and universities at all levels.
In the meeting, CAI Yonglian, Vice-President of USST, discussed the graduation process with the members of the Management Council Meeting. Laura Bishop, Principal of SBC reported the work and progress of each project in SBC, and discussed it with the attendants. All members discussed the following issues in detail including the cooperation projects, the current learning situation of students, the design of the professional curriculum, students’ enrolment and employment, etc.
The members of Management Council Meeting gave their recognition for SBC’s new breakthrough in various aspects, and also gave their thanks to support from leaders of USST and SBC. Both sides will continue to go forward hand in hand, together to promote each work smoothly, and look forward to negotiating face to face and further communication after the COVID-19.
