XIE Luyi won the Second Prize in the 5th SFLEP Shanghai Intercultural Competence Contest

Recently, The 5th SFLEP Shanghai Intercultural Competence Contest, directed held by Shanghai Education Committee, Shanghai International Studies University, severing Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press and Shanghai International Studies University Center for cross-cultural studies as an academic support unit, was held in Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press. The team including CHEN Tianhao and CHOU Hongyang from Foreign Language College, and XIE Luyi from Sino-British College won the Second Prize. It is worth mentioning that XIE Luyi, a freshman majoring in Business Management, was able to stand out from the competitive team, which was undoubtedly not easy.

It is reported that three students combining Chinese and Western cultural differences, with public diplomacy as the theme. They provided a vivid performance about different views on the prevention measures of government decision-making under the background of the COVID-19 from the different perspectives of a foreign couple. They were highly appreciated by the judges by virtue of their vivid and humorous performance with cleverly designed cross-cultural stories and excellent oral English expression ability.

“Everyone has their own adept areas, we perform our duties and encourage each other, leading to the final success!” XIE Luyi said that the excellent results could not be achieved without teamwork and the patient guidance of our tutors. With the help and care of two seniors, not only did she make a breakthrough from being at a loss at the beginning to finally winning the award, but also gradually learned to think positively and enlarge her self-value.

The SFLEP Shanghai Intercultural Competence Contest aims to promote the students' multicultural communication ability, enabling students to own both Chinese feelings, cultural confidence and the international vision and strong intercultural communication ability.
