On the afternoon of 31 December, 2020, University of Shanghai for Science and Technology (USST) held a grand reception to review the past efforts and pay tribute to all faculty and students who have made outstanding contributions to the school in 2020, and wish all USST-ers around the world a happy New Year. The reception was simultaneously broadcast for all the teachers, students and alumni at home and abroad.
Among the representatives of teachers and students present were advanced individuals for epidemic prevention, teachers of teaching, national scientific researchers, world games contestants, national contest winners, and western volunteers. They took the initiative, fulfilled their mission with dedication, and wrote the youth with struggle, demonstrating the passion of USSTers. On behalf of all faculty. Professor Li Wei, from the School of Materials Science, was committed to tackling technological difficulties in serving urgent clinical needs; Li Changlin, chief of the Health Section, was stationed in the duty room for nine consecutive days and nights during the Spring Festival to protect the health of teachers and students. On behalf of all students, Li Chuang, from the School of Environment and Architecture sprinkles youth where the motherland mostly needs, and help more people in need; Ding Sitong from the School of Optical-Electrical and Computer Engineering, recognizes the meaning of Youth Challenge through unremitting efforts in scientific research.
As shown in a short video entitled A Salute to the Year 2020, all faculty and students showed no panic and fear when facing the sudden outbreak of the epidemic. Under the strong leadership of the school party committee, they worked hard with concerted efforts to overcome challenges and achieve a number of innovative breakthroughs. President Ding Xiaodong pointed out in his speech that the beginning of 2020 brought some challenges. However, USST-ers have braved winds and waves, achieved a win-win result in epidemic prevention and control and career development of the school, and embraces joys of a bumper harvest due to the hard work of faculty and students.
