The Formal Welcome for our new SBC Students

On 9th October afternoon, SBC held the formal Welcome Ceremony for our new students at the Fuxing Road campus, USST. The students were welcomed by CAI Yonglian, Vice President (International) USST, Dean of SBC; Laura Bishop, Principal of SBC; LI Yan, Party Secretary of SBC, Deputy Director of Campus Management Committee, Fuxing Road Campus; LIU Qin, Vice-Dean of SBC; XU Lin, Associate Dean of Administration of SBC and the SBC academic team and representatives of each department of SBC.

At the entrance to the event, the students signed in on a signature wall with their wishes and  expectations for university life: “I am SBCer!”, “I am going to be an outstanding person in the future!”, and “We are here in SBC!” etc.

The Welcome Ceremony was hosted bilingually by new students, XU Chenxi (Business Management) and ZHANG Wenxi (Electrical and Electronic Engineering).

Student and graduate representatives gave speeches on our themes of “Responsible Leadership”, “Enterprise and Innovation”, “Cultural Empathy”; ZHENG Shiyu, a 2014 graduate of Events Management; WU Junzhe, a Year 3 student of Electrical and Electronic Engineering; and two new students XIE Luyi, Antonio Diaz both studying Business Management.  

Zheng Shiyu shared her study and media experience as one of our alumni representatives. She said that the influence of “Responsible Leadership” makes her brave and confident. WU Junzhe said, with “Enterprise and Innovation”, he has achieved many honours with his creative team. XIE Luyi said, the excellent location and the British education at SBC were the main attractions. An international student from Spain, Antonio Diaz, expressed his happinss at  joining SBC, and hoped that he will be a good SBCer after joining a multinational and multicultural campus.

Laura Bishop, Principal of SBC warmly welcomed the new students. She said that SBC and its partnerships have an advantage of international education with many opportunities for students.   “A student is not just passively absorbing what the lecturer says, but actively listening to a lecturer, gaining ideas and insights and, most importantly, following up what is taught during a lecture or seminar with their own research and learning.” She hoped that students would be positive in their studies and become excellent citizens of the world.

CAI Yonglian, Vice President of USST, Dean of SBC also welcomed new students, and introduced USST and SBC. She suggested to students to be stronger and responsible. she shared alumni stories during the pandemic, and alumni’s achievements for the new generation.

The students’ song completed the SBC 2020 Welcome Ceremony.

2020 has been a difficult year, and our new students have coped with all the difficulties to get together today in SBC. All of our students are on a long journey to a future embracing their youthful dreams, with love.
