“How do we take part in domestic recruitment examination?”, “What degrees do we receive after graduating from SBC?”, and “What are employment prospects after graduating from SBC?”... Our summer work at SBC, included recruitment advertisement, tests for independent recruitment and an open day on several online platforms for contact with prospective students and their parents.
We have held 41 online recruitment lectures, 28 tests for independent recruitment, and 7 virtual open day activities so far. SBC attracts students and their parents with creative thinking, abundant online activities and an active approach.
Combination of online and offline recruitment advertisements
On 14th March, FAN Shijia, from the class of 2018 joined in a live-streaming event to show SBC campus to prospective students and their parents. The first independent recruitment interviews in 2020 were held on that day. YANG Endong, South-East China Regional Recruitment Manager from the Hangzhou office held an admissions meeting at night to introduce SBC and our student recruitment policy, which marked the beginning of the 2020 student recruitment work in SBC.
SBC started to prepare domestic recruitment examinations in early April, and prepare pre-examination help, 7 online recruitment speeches, and 15 offline consulting meetings to improve prospective students’ better understanding of SBC. Finally, 1,266 students attended our online examination.
“Today, three 2019 graduates attended our live streaming, also with the postgraduates in top5 UK universities…” said Lily Lin, Recruitment Director of SBC, who launched the live-streaming series, she said that Domestic Student Recruitment see online promotion as the most important thing currently. They will use excellent students and graduates as a recruitment advantage. During the summer vacation, they pushed 7 online speeches called “The next generation leads the previous generation”, which attracted an audience of more than 2500.
Meanwhile, SBC published recruitment information on official media platform, produced student recruitment brochure, and posters showing. SBC’s high standard, British education and other information had been showed in different ways and different channels.
Hosting Virtual Open Day, entering SBC at home
SBC hosted 7 Virtual Open Days during summer vacation in order to protect students and lecturers. The attendees introduced British education, lecturers and students, etc., which showed off their four-year life of SBC in different aspects.
From 20th to 29th July, SBC invited graduates to share their study experiences and career plans. Through their sharing, prospective students and their parents had the opportunity to learn more about SBC.
Also, there was an academic presence in this online activity, which invited our international lecturers to give a brief introduction and a basic understanding for prospective students on their subject. Prospective students positively interacted with the lecturers.
SBC showing international education
From August 8th to 9th, 2020 China International Education Exhibition Tour (CIEET Online) sponsored by China (Ministry of Education) Service Center for Overseas Studies was successfully held, with more than 110 colleges and institutions from 14 countries taking part online. Sino-British College-University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, as the only Chinese-foreign cooperatively-run university in Shanghai that intensively introduces educational resources from 9 UK universities, was invited to participate in this event. XU Lin, Deputy Dean of Administration of SBC, and LIN Yan, Director of Domestic Admissions Department, interacted with prospective students and their parents through online live broadcasts.
Professors and lecturers at SBC offered their encouragement for success in the GaoKao by presenting an on-line information session about opportunities at SBC during the evening of 30th June. Professor LIU Qin, Vice-Dean of SBC, hosted the presentation and introduced SBC’s history, teaching team, course structure, teaching style, etc. Lecturers discussed their academic study programmes’ benefits, course options, and career prospects, etc.
The weather in Shanghai is extremely hot, but everyone’s enthusiasm for SBC is unbeatable. The mixed approach to recruit students is much more convenient for prospective students and their parents, which breaks the traditional way of recruiting new students.
