The First Group of SBC Students Coming Return!

2020-05-08100

May 4th and 5th saw the return of our first group of nearly 160 students to the SBC campus. Their safe return was overseen by LI Yan, Party Secretary of SBC and Deputy Director of Campus Management Committee, Fuxing Road Campus; Professor LIU Qin, Vice-Dean of SBC; Professor Laura Bishop, Principal of SBC; XU Lin, Associate Dean of Administration of SBC; YANG Xiangning, Deputy Director of the Security Department of USST and many other SBC colleagues. On the morning of May 4th, Director TAN from the Cultural Security Bureau of the Public Security Bureau, accompanied by colleagues, inspected the campus security arrangements. They expressed their pleasure that SBC students are returning and put in place temporary arrangements to ensure the students’ safety.

Strict Campus Controls

“Please keep one metre apart; cooperate with temperature measurement; then show your campus identity card, your health code and sign-in.” From 8:00 am the loudspeaker at the campus entrance continuously informs the returning students and staff, while the busy security guards supervise the controls. “For the convenience of parents and students, we arranged the return on these two days to avoid congestion” Professor LIU Qin told us. Students can decide independently whether or not to come back.  However, as part of the campus security, parents are not permitted to enter the campus. “Students need to take care of their baggage without their parents’ help, which is also a good chance to improve their independence!”

Study and Student Life Continues

Our online teaching carries on, with students, who are on campus, able to  choose to communicate with lecturers face to face during staff office hours. XU Lin, Associate Dean of Administration at SBC commented that SBC continues to evolve teaching and management practice and also explore new teaching methods combining Sino-British teaching and learning practice and information and communications technology in order to continue the dramatic changes necessary.

Close supervision is being maintained for the health and safety of catering and accommodation. SBC volunteers will help our students and provide infection control items. Additionally, students are now required to make advance reservations when eating in the SBC canteen. Fresh, pre-packaged food is provided and the canteen fully disinfects three times each day.  Diners now maintain “social distancing”, guided by arrows and table spacing.

Our Disease Prevention Measures

SBC have arranged volunteer teams from different departments between 8:00am and 8:00pm. Also, campus medical staff are available all day. SBC will support anyone showing symptoms of the virus. Therefore, every one’s body temperature is checked twice a day with body-temperature measuring stations in every building.

Leading a SBC staff meeting, LI Yan, Party Secretary of SBC and Deputy Director of Campus Management Committee, Fuxing Road Campus called upon each lecturer to hold a class meeting for students who are on campus. She also emphasised that SBC will continually check the security, ensuring regular disinfection in all public places and maintaining up to date and comprehensive health statistics for all.
