On 5th November 2019, SBC was privileged to receive a visit from the Ministry of Education led by LIU Jin, the Director-General of International Cooperation and Exchanges and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan affairs. She was accompanied by NIE Ruilin, commissioner of foreign education regulation, Wang Jingyao from the same office, LI Yongzhi Deputy Director of the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission and LIU Jiangyuan Deputy Director of International Communications. They were welcomed by USST’s President and deputy secretary of the party committee, DING Xiaodong, along with Vice-President CAI Yonglian with other senior representatives of the party committee, USST’s International Office and Staff and students from SBC.
Starting with a visit to SBC's Learning Resources Centre and Innovation Centre, where USST President DING Xiaodong outlined the University’s history, the future developments, the approach to education and the role of the international collaboration at the heart of SBC. The visit then met students in the Innovation Centre workshop and were fluently introduced to the innovation projects "Starry Ink", "Actors" and "Robo Vigor". SBC students have won a silver medal in fifth China "Internet +" competition. The visitors complimented the students on their achievement in the 12th annual session of the national college innovation awards.
During the formal welcome meeting, USST President DING Xiaodong outlined the new concepts of international co-operative education, international professional recognition and trends in the expansion of open education policy. The three concepts of “responsible leadership, entrepreneurship and innovation, and cultural empathy” were illustrated in a short video presentation. Linda LIU, Vice-Dean of SBC, outlined to the visitors the educational and cultural development for students, the professional teaching team, the international communications and SBC’s vision for future development.
Director-General LIU Jin praised the philosophy and SBC’s achievement in international education, noting the success of the “1 to N Consortium Model” partnership which is both longstanding and unique. She said that she now had a comprehensive knowledge of SBC and how it is student centred with characteristics of internationalisation, innovation and creativity leading to excellent education outcomes for SBC graduates.
Director-General Liu Jin made the announcement that the Ministry of Education is working on a policy document to accelerate the opening of new education opportunities for international students. She expressed her hope that SBC maintains the advantages of “1 to N Consortium Model” collaboration with its partners contributing to open education policy.
