Deputy Mayor of Liverpool visits the Sino-British College, USST

During the afternoon of November 8th, Gary Millar, a Deputy Mayor of Liverpool, visited SBC. Gary Milar was accompanied by Yang Le, from the foreign affairs office of Shanghai municipal people's government, Tris Brown, Head of the Mayor's Office of Liverpool City Council, and Dr Julia WANG, Head of China Engagement at Liverpool John Moores University, a partner university of SBC and other representatives of LJMU.  Gary Millar was welcomed to SBC by USST Vice-President, and Dean of SBC, CAI Yonglian and senior colleagues at SBC. 

CAI Yonglian introduced the history since founding in 2006, the education characteristics, and international cooperation of SBC. CAI Yonglian emphasised the long partnership with Liverpool John Moores University in engineering programmes with more than 3000 students enrolled and now in its 13th session.  She also noted out that this year marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of twin cities between Shanghai and Liverpool.  Gary Millar, a graduate of LJMU, thanked SBC for a warm reception.  He said that Shanghai and Liverpool shared the same energy, friendship and cosmopolitan atmosphere adding "I've come to think of Shanghai as a second home”.  He noted Shanghai’s and Liverpool’s close cooperation in culture, education, economy and trade and extended a formal invitation to USST Vice-President CAI Yonglian to visit Liverpool.

The visitors then met LJMU students, and their lecturers, on the partnership engineering degree programmes in SBC’s British tea room and Gary Millar and Dr Wang discussed the attractions of Liverpool with the interested students.  Group photographs concluded the visit.
