On 16th May, the 2015 Sino-foreign Joint Venture University (College) Football Tournament was successfully held at the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology (South Campus).The tournament was organized by the Sino-British College and Physical Education Department of USST in order to strengthen the friendship and communication between JV institutions and enhance the social reputation of JV universities and colleges.
Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, University of Michigan-Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute, SHU-UTS SILC Business School and the Sino-British College, USST sent their best teams to attend the tournament. All teams gave left a favorable impression on the audience through their amazing performance on the football pitch.
SBC held a special reception welcoming all teams taking part in the event on the evening of the 15th of May, 2015. The event also provided an opportunity for players from different institutions to get to know each other.
The opening ceremony, held on the 16th May, was hosted by Dr Liu Bin, Party Secretary of the Joint General Party Branch, Fuxing Campus USST. Professor Liu Daoping, Deputy Party Secretary of USST, gave an opening speech and extended a warm welcome to all participants. The football match began after all the players and referees took their oath.
There were two rounds with two games for each round in the tournament. All of the games were elimination matches. Yang Zhiyao, from Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, scored the first goal of the tournament nine minutes into the match against the SHU-UTS SILC Business School. Five minutes later, Yang Bowen, from the Joint Institute of the University of Michigan-Shanghai Jiao Tong University, scored the second goal of the tournament, playing against the Sino-British College. In the end, the final was contested between Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University versus University of Michigan-Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute.
After forty minutes, each team failed to score a goal and the game ended in a goalless draw. In the penalty shoot-out, Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University defeated the team from University of Michigan-Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute and won the championship. University of Michigan-Shanghai Jiao Tong University emerged as runners-up. The Sino-British College came in third place after they defeated SHU-UTS SILC Business School by virtue of a single goal netted by Chen Enpu.
Yang Zhiyao from Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University was awarded the Best Player Award. Zhang Bowen took the prize for Top Scorer. Chen Xianyang from the Sino-British College was awarded the accolade of Most Popular Player. Tang Wenyu was voted as the most Photogenic Player.
The closing ceremony was hosted by Professor Liu Qin, Vice Dean of the Sino-British College. Professor Sun Yuedong and Professor Tian Weifeng, Vice Presidents of USST, Professor John Wilson, Principal and CEO of SBC, Professor Ma Xiaoting, Director of International Affairs, USST and Professor Ni Wei, Head of Physical Education Department, USST were invited to attend the closing ceremony and presented awards to the winning teams and players.
It was agreed by all team members that this special sports event had strengthened the connection between JV institutions, enhanced communication among students from those universities and colleges while developing mutual friendship. Team members also expressed the hope that the tournament be held annually to help further develop the relationship among Sino-foreign joint venture universities and colleges.
