This art exhibition presents artist’s thoughts on the relationship between art and science, human and nature in the contemporary system. It also showcases attempts at the possibilities of artistic expression.
<Civilization>
Photographic Installations: In “Civilization”,artists use engravings on glass projections in the four languages, blurring the natural landscape at the back. From the artist's point of view, the process of civilization lengthens the distance between humans and nature. In the early age, human beings were part of nature. Today, although we enjoy the safety and comfort brought by civilization and development, human beings are far from nature and can not experience it due to urbanization. In this two-layer structure work, the lower layer is made of transparent glass, with ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics, Sanskrit, oracle-bones and seal-script Chinese characters respectively behind natural images of the ocean, sky and mountains. With illumination, the glass with its natural images makes dim the natural landscape.
<Nature>
In the photographic installation, "Nature”, the artist employs the realism of photography in the mind of the public, with a 4x5 presented black and white film recording a " natural look " under artificial presentation, the displacement and dislocation of the space, not only showing the abnormality of visual experience, but also letting the audience to rethink the meaning of true and false for human beings. Humans have always been interested in the exploration for the truth of life. Those humans break biological genes, cultivate new species, and even copy themselves – all of this is not surprising. Humans have become the master of all things, but can people dominate the truth, dominate their own senses, and let themselves live in a lie? Can we or can we not have a relaxing dialogue with the "natural" and accept the artificial wonderfulness only within the comfort zone built by ourselves?
