To assess teaching outcomes and further enhance students’ professional skills and practical abilities, the Class of 2022 in Events Management of SBC hosted a creative carnival on March 26 at the college’s sports field. With the theme “Blossom & Thrive: Celebrating the Arrival of a Green Spring at Sino-British College,” the event showcased students’ innovation and expertise in exhibition planning. Ajaya Shakya and other academic faculty of this programme, attended the event to evaluate students on booth design, thematic presentation, operational execution, on-site engagement, adaptability, and final presentation.
Divided into eight groups, the 2022 EvM students meticulously designed and set up their booths, enthusiastically presenting their unique exhibition concepts, interactive activities, and specialty products to fellow students and faculty. Centered around the theme of spring greenery, the booths featured soap flower designs, handmade sachets, creative bracelets, potted plants, fun games, seasonal beverages, and a lucky draw, offering a variety of engaging experiences. The event not only allowed participants to immerse themselves in the vibrancy of spring but also provided an opportunity to take home handcrafted items and exquisite prizes, capturing the beauty of spring.
Lecturer Ajaya Shakya emphasised that Managing a live event is an extension of classroom learning and serves as a comprehensive evaluation of students’ competencies. Throughout the process of event planning, teamwork, creative execution, promotion, and problem-solving, students demonstrated excellent communication, adaptability, collaboration, and analytical skills. These soft skills are valuable not only in the field of exhibition management but also useful across various industries. Other lecturers encouraged students to reflect on their experiences after the event, identify areas for improvement to build a solid foundation for their future careers.
Li Chenying, a student from one of the exhibition groups, shared her experience: “The entire module spanned over seven months, from early-stage planning to promotion and execution afterwards. One of our group’s featured activities is the handmade eggshell mystery box, which requires intricate our craftsmanship and significant time management. We are delighted that this activity is well received by both students and faculty. The high demand challenges our production efficiency, but thanks to the dedication and coordination of our team members, we successfully completed this event. Although there is still room for improvement, the enthusiasm and positive feedback from participants have given us the confidence and motivation to keep striving forward.”
Guo Yuhong, a Business Management student of Class of 2022, reflected on his experience: “Today, I truly felt the dedication and professionalism of the organisers. During the handmade bracelet session, the students at the booth patiently guided me, provided sample references, and helped me refine the details of my design. Coincidentally, I ran into my lecturer, Kenley Mew, and decided to make him a bracelet. We even took a group photo together with the students and lecturers at the booth. The entire Events Day was an incredibly rewarding experience, and I sincerely appreciate the effort and dedication of all the organisers.”
Managing the live event not only provided a platform for Year 3 students in EvM to showcase their talents and creativity but also brought a vibrant and innovative spring celebration to the SBC community. As an integral part of the third-year practical education in EvM, the module enables students to independently organise and execute an exhibition, reinforcing their understanding of theoretical knowledge, enhancing practical skills, and enriching the college’s cross-cultural and campus culture. This initiative further contributes to SBC’s commitment to improving teaching quality and advancing professional development within the programme.
