SBC attends 2023 UK-China Joint Institute Alliance Annual General Meeting and Transnational Education Conference

During November 29 and 30, the 2023 UK-China Joint Institute Alliance Annual General Meeting and Transnational Education Conference were held successfully in Chengdu. Professor Rupert Ward, Executive Dean of SBC, was invited to attend the events and participate in discussions.

Supported by Cultural and Education Section, British Embassy and China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE), both events were hosted by UK-China Joint Institute Alliance and University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC), organised by Glasgow College, UESTC.

Professor ZENG Yong, President of UESTC, YANG Jianguo, Second-level Inspector of Department of Education of Sichuan Province, Nick Thomas, Minister of Culture and Education, British Embassy in China attended the opening ceremony and delivered their speeches. AN Yan, Deputy Secretary General of CEAIE expressed her congratulations through a video message.

Professor Rupert Ward, Executive Dean of SBC, co-chaired the group discussion on Building Research Collaboration and Industry Links with Dr GUO Dong, Deputy Dean (Executive) of NUIST-Reading Academy, Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology.

The experts and scholars shared opinions on innovations in talent development, employer engagement in education, promoting scientific and technological transformation and more.

Professor Ward also discussed how joint institute curricula may best serve students and how we can optimise the quality of teaching through attracting high quality international flying faculty. “The UK-China Joint Institute Alliance Conference provides a great opportunity to share best practice and discuss common issues and opportunities affecting all partners.”

Over a hundred representatives from 41 Sino-British cooperative institutes and their partner universities attended and discussed topics including quality assurance and sustainable development, academic development and student support, high-quality teaching profession. These events not only strengthened relationship between SBC and other cooperative institutes, but also shared valuable experience for SBC’s development in all aspects.
