Policies & Regulations

1. Enrollment

1)Students must complete admission procedures in time in accordance with the relevant requirements and regulations at the Sino-British College.

2)Students who can’t arrive on time for some special reasons must ask the college for leave. The leave time shall not exceed two weeks. Except for force majeure, any student who is absent without leave will be considered as giving up admission qualifications.

3)Students who satisfy entrance requirements will be registered, or the admission qualification will be cancelled.

4)Please refer to the enrollment procedures information released by the Sino-British College, the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology.

2. Registration

1)Registration is necessary for students to obtain and maintain study qualifications. Each semester, students must complete registration procedures under SBC Registry’s guidance within the stipulated time.

2)Students must ask the college for leave in case of failing to register in time, or will be regarded as truant. Any student who doesn’t register within 2 weeks of classes without valid reason will be given a warning, and over 4 weeks will be regarded as having made a voluntary withdrawal.

3)Students who have not paid the relevant fees or meet requirements of registration cannot be registered.

4)SBC Registry will complete the registration of Partner Universities in the UK for students according to the enrolment status of each student at the beginning of each academic year. Simultaneously, students must provide relevant materials according to the requirements of SBC Partner Universities and complete the corresponding operation regarding online registration.

5)Please refer to the latest registration procedures information released by The Sino-British College, USST and SBC Partner Universities.

3. Suspension and Re-entry

1)For dual-registered students, the management approach and application procedures of suspension and re-entry must follow the Students’ Status Management Regulations released by the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology (for details, please refer to “Student Handbook of University of Shanghai for Science and Technology”), and relevant regulations of the Sino-British College.

2)The period of suspension for free-entry students should not be less than one academic year. The start and end time of suspension would be subject to change according to regulations of the Sino-British College and the application for suspension must be approved by the Sino-British College. The accumulative length of suspension should not be more than two academic years.

3)The free-entry students who apply for suspension with the reason of illness must provide relevant certificates (original copy and photocopy) issued by a hospital (at least a Grade II Level A hospital). SBC Registry would reserve the right to verify the authenticity of the certificates. If the certificates are true, the student will be allowed to suspend from the Sino-British College.

4)The free-entry students, who would be drafted into the army, must provide relevant certificates to the college so that the student’s enrolment status would be kept by the Sino-British College.

5)The enrolment status of the student who applied for suspension would be preserved during the suspension period, and these students would not enjoy the same study treatment as the student whose status is active at the Sino-British College. The Sino-British College will not be responsible for any personal or property accidents and any kinds of infringement incidents that were taken place during the suspension period.

6)Students must tackle re-entry procedures at least within one week ahead of the deadline. Applying for re-entry after recovery from illness, students must provide certificates (original copy and photocopy) issued by the appointed medical institution. The SBC Registry would reserve the right to verify the authenticity of the certificates. If the certificates are true, the student will be allowed to be back to school for learning after the approval from the Sino-British College.

4. Withdrawal

1)For dual-registered students, the management approach and application procedures of withdrawal must follow the Students’ Status Management Regulations released by the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology (for details, please refer to “Student Handbook of University of Shanghai for Science and Technology”), and relevant regulations of the Sino-British College.

2)The free-entry students would be asked for dropping out the Sino-British College if students meet one of the following circumstances:

i.Student didn’t register on due time without any informing in advance to SBC Registry and Students Management department.  

ii.When suspension is expired, students did not apply for re-entry within the stipulated time.

iii.The times of student’s being absent from class which exceeds the warning line of Attendance Regulations of the Sino-British College.

iv.Student’s academic performance did not meet UK progression criteria, and the withdrawal decision is made by UK partner.

v.Any other circumstances after was considering as withdrawal made by SBC.

3)For free-entry students who apply for withdraw from College, students should go to SBC Registry at first and complete relevant procedures. After approval, the application for withdrawal takes effects. The application form would be filed by SBC Registry.

4)SBC Registry will not issue any certificates or documents if a student leaves SBC without going through the withdraw procedure.

5. Pathway Changing

1)Changing pathway is only for free-entry students. For dual-registered students, the pathway is 4+0, which is not permitted to change.

2)For free-entry students, the application of changing pathway should be within the given period published by Registry. Any application after deadline will not be accepted. As usual, it will be from the end of 2nd semester of first academic year to the beginning of 1st semester of next academic year. Please refer to the latest relevant notice about the deadline and procedure.

3)The application of the pathway changing must be approved by the college. SBC Registry will release the results in the following 2 weeks after approval.

6. Programme Transferring

1)For dual-registered students, they are required to finish the modules of their initial programme in the given period without permission for any programme transferring. Please refer to the relevant regulations Supplemental Provisions for Dual-Registered Students’ Status Management in this handbook.

2)For free-entry students, the only chance of transferring programme is provided for new freshmen (Counting from the first year of their entry). No application or any application after deadline will be regarded as giving up the chance voluntarily. . As usual, it will be from the end of 1st semester to the beginning of 2st semester of first entry academic year. Please refer to the latest relevant notice released by Registry about the deadline and procedure.

3)For free-entry students, the application of transferring programme is only permitted to transfer within Business stream or Engineering stream. (For example, switching programme from ME to BM or from EVM to IEC is not accepted.)

4)SBC will discuss and approve the applications on an individual basis and maintains the right to disapprove the application.

7. School Leaving

1)All the students should go to SBC Registry to complete procedures after finishing study at the Sino-British College, USST.

2)For students who apply for leaving school and dropping out of academic year, students should go to SBC Registry to complete procedures.

3)SBC Registry will not issue any relevant certificates to students who have not completed the required procedures.

8. Progression and Graduation Regulation

1)Students who meet the relevant progression criteria of UK partners can be upgraded to the next level. Year 4 students who meet the relevant criteria of UK partners can be awarded degree of UK partner universities.

2)The criteria for progression and degree awarding please refer to the latest regulations released by the UK partner.

Regarding the free-entry students, please refer to the relevant documents released by the Sino-British College. The Sino-British College has authority in explanation of the above regulations.
