The Sino-British College virtually celebrates the Class of 2022

The 2022 Awards Ceremony was hosted by the Sino-British College (SBC), the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology (USST) on 28th July to celebrate the academic and social achievements made by our graduates, along with a film about 2022, messages from SBC lecturers and tutors and graduate albums of the Class of 2022, attracting over 29,000 views in all.

Over 200 graduating students in BA (Hons) Business Management, BA (Hons) Events Management, BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering and BEng (Hons) Electrical and Electronic Engineering at SBC attended the ceremony virtually together with their families and friends.

Senior representatives from SBC/USST and its UK partner universities who attended the celebrations included: Dr CAI Yonglian, Vice President of USST, Dean of SBC; Prof Jane Owen-Lynch, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Teaching and Learning) from University of Huddersfield; Prof Laura Bishop, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Faculty of Science) from Liverpool John Moores University; Prof Chris Wigginton, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Global and Academic Partnerships from Sheffield Hallam University were in attendance. XU Lin, Deputy Secretary of General Party Branch of SBC, Associate Dean of Administration of SBC chaired the ceremony.

Members of the SBC academic teams and colleagues of the partner universities were also invited to join the ceremony and shared the joy of their students.

Dr CAI Yonglian had the three good words for our final year students. “Firstly, we hope you will still remember USST's mottos: Honesty, Integrity, Diligence, Benevolence, Learning, Reflection, Vision, Aspiration. We hope you embed these as the foundation of your successful future. Secondly, we would like you to develop critical thinking in this ever-changing world and keep your justice and kindness no matter what temptations and difficulties you face. Thirdly, we want you to be good at appreciating beauty, from the beauty of your own to the beauty of others and then to the beauty of all.”

Prof Jane Owen-Lynch said in her speech, “Your graduation marks the start of a new relationship between you and the University of Huddersfield. Today, you have officially become the alumni of this university. We are determined that you can continue to be proud of us. I hope you will keep in touch with us to hear about our successes and keep us up-to-date with your own achievements.”

Prof Laura Bishop said in her speech, “We are very proud of our partnership with SBC-USST. And you, our graduates, are the latest success stories produced from this excellent collaboration. The university’s motto is Audentes fortuna juvat, or ‘Fortune favours the bold.’ These are good words to remember as you embark on this next stage of your life. We hope you go on to great success and happiness, whatever your future endeavours are and wherever they may bring you.”

Prof Chris Wigginton said in his speech, “I have the great honour of congratulating you because of the partnership we have with SBC and all of the work you have done to achieve the great successes within your degree. Your persistence, your endeavour and your hard work have been in the face of the pandemic. We hope we can keep in touch and all your hard work will pay off in your future.”

To the Class of 2022, today is the end to one journey and the start of a new one. We hope you always work hard in pursuit of your aspirations. SBC-USST is honoured to be the start of your career and always be your harbour and support. We sincerely wish all the 2022 graduates a promising future.
