On 10th September, our 2020 Dual-registered Students arrived for the start of the new semester. It was a hot day but everyone on the Fuxing Campus was still enthusiastic.
As required by infection control measure, the new students arrived at different times and said goodbye to their parents at the front gate. New students told us that starting the university life is an important time, part of becoming an adult and coping with everything difficult by themselves. From 8.00am, everyone was very busy; freshers, volunteer students, support staff, etc. The volunteers kindly helped the new students to move their luggage, guided them around campus, and introduced the timetable and the campus environment.
CAI Yonglian, Vice President USST, Dean of SBC inspected the student-enrolment activities at 10:30am, accompanied by Laura Bishop, Principal of SBC; LI Yan, Party Secretary of SBC, Deputy Director of Campus Management Committee, Fuxing Road Campus; LIU Qin, Vice-Dean of SBC; and XU Lin, Associate Dean of Administration of SBC. CAI Yonglian visited the student dormitories and the teaching building, talked with the new students and prepared welcome gifts for them.
The arrival of new students definitely brought attention for SBC back to life. A prominent pin board and a tree with postcards attracted students; they wrote down their wishes on the postcards and took pictures. Then students lined up and checked in to the dormitory. The dormitory-management staff asked for patience and responsibility without help from their parents. “They need to show me the admission letter; I will give them the keys after registration.” Meanwhile, there are now facial-recognition devices for each dormitory for students’ safety.
Loading the campus ID card was the first thing after enrolment; and some students used their cards to have lunch in SBC canteen. Before enrolment, SBC called for avoiding food waste and sorting recycling through posters and banners. In future, SBC will encourage “Rubbish Classification and the “Clean Plate Campaign on the campus, encourage to cultivate students' good habits of civilised life.
