SBC Hosts Its Management Council Meeting

The Sino-British College is a college of the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology and is a unique collaboration with 9 of the founding universities of the Northern Consortium (now NCUK) and was established in 2006. All our stakeholders are represented on SBC’s management council which meets regularly and came together this month on the SBC campus on 6th December. 

Representatives included Prof Peter Byers, Pro Vice-Chancellor from Liverpool John Moores University, Prof Jane Owen-Lynch, Pro Vice-Chancellor from the University of Huddersfield, Prof Chris Wigginton, Pro Vice-Chancellor from Sheffield Hallam University, Prof John Brewer, CEO of NCUK and Dr Malcolm Butler, Vice-President from the University of Sheffield. Prof DING Xiaodong, President of USST, hosted the meeting and chairs the council, with colleagues CAI Yonglian, Vice-President of USST and Dean of SBC; Prof MA Xiaoting, Director of International Affairs USST, ProfLaura Bishop, Principal of SBC; Prof LIU Qin, Vice-Dean of SBC and LI Yan, Party Secretary of SBC.

Before the meeting, Prof Ding welcomed Prof Brewer to the SBC family and congratulated him on his appointment as the new Chief Executive Officer of NCUK. Prof Brewer emphasised the importance of the SBC collaboration with USST to NCUK. 

During the council meeting, Prof Ding emphasised the importance of the co-operation for all the partners and the contribution of the partnership to the education of our students. He illustrated this with the many awards received by students on the partners’ programmes at SBC. Prof Ding foresaw continuous improvement in the student experience at SBC and urged new and innovative collaborations for the future. The council also received formal reports from the Principal of SBC and the Vice-Dean of SBC covering future developments, increasing international enrolments, summer schools and internships. 

The formal meeting was followed by an informative campus tour to view the improvements in the facilities since the previous council meeting at SBC in July.
