The 2018 UK University Counselling Mission Held Successfully

2018-03-2213

The 2018 UK university counselling mission was held in the SBC Teaching Building on 19-21 March. During the three-day event, more than 200 students received professional counselling service for overseas study and career development offered by over 20 academics and international officers flying in from the nine UK partner universities and NCUK.

The university counselling mission has become an important annual event for all SBC students and staff. Given the great number of options available in terms of universities and courses, the counselling mission aims to provide guidance for SBC students in choosing universities and courses for their further study in UK. It also helps enhance mutual understanding and communication between SBC and the British partner universities.

SBC students are encouraged to become independent learners, who are entrepreneurial in their thinking, international in their outlook and socially-responsible in their actions. With the guidance offered by the SBC Overseas Service team and administrative team, students have made good preparations for the interview, to consider questions in advance and make quality enquiries in relation to courses and subjects, campus life and career opportunities after graduation.

The university representatives reported that SBC students were very well-prepared for studying in the UK, not only in terms of their English language proficiency, but also the confidence and professional competence during the counselling process. Chris Wilson, Regional Manager, International Office, at the highly popular University of Sheffield, he said: "We find SBC students are very well-prepared for studying with us, they have clear idea what they want to study and have taken time to research the University of Sheffield and the courses we offer. We think that they can be some of the best students we have seen so far this year."

Professor John Wilson, Principal and CEO of SBC, said: “I am very grateful to NCUK for supporting the mission, to all colleagues, who helped organise the event and also to student helpers. We are pleased about the fact that our students have shown great enthusiasm for enhancing their international experience through the event and I am confident they will enjoy and greatly benefit from their further study in UK.”
