2018-03-2118

On 19th March, Year 3 Events Management students ran the annual Live Event Festival 2018– “From Now to the Future” on campus. They hosted 8 different campus activities ranging from themed events to fun and interactive activities.

Events Management is becoming increasingly important as a specialist field of study. Events  are very diverse and can range from small private functions to large scale festivals, sports tournaments and international mega-events such as the Olympic Games. The Events Management degree is designed to prepare students for managerial careers in the events industry or for further study at postgraduate level.

The Live Event Festival is the annual major campus event in SBC and has been so for many years. All students in Years 3 and 4 engage in planning and managing events on and off campus with a range of clients and stakeholders, reflecting the practical as well as academic elements of this programme as the opportunity to gain practical experience of events management is a key feature of the programme. Students will learn through lectures, group projects, industry visits, practical work and managing live events.

This year saw a great increase in the variety of interactive events which brought lots of fun and excitement to students’ campus life. Year 3 students worked hard and collaborated well together when facing the challenge of unpleasant weather conditions. Zhao Jin, a Year 3 Events Management student in group six of Seven’s Time Event Company said, “The theme of our booth is light exercise & diet, we want to bring a new kind of exercise to the public and promote scientific and effective fitness methods.

Kristy Reed, Lecturer of Events Management, who was responsible for the whole festival, said “These entertaining events are more than just good fun. Thanks everyone’s efforts the festival was very successful and enjoyable.”
