On 20th September, Dr David Pilsbury, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Coventry University, visited The Sino-British College (SBC), University of Shanghai for Science and Technology (USST). Dr Pilsbury was accompanied by Dr Don Finlay, Vice-Dean of Faculty of Business and Law, and Mr Tim Matthews, Member of the Board of Directors. Members of the USST and SBC executive team met with the officials on their arrival, including Professor Tian Weifeng, Vice-President of USST and Dean of SBC; Professor Ma Xiaoting, Director of the International Affairs Office of USST; Professor Shan Yanguang, Director of the Teacher Development Center of USST; Ms. Liu Yuan, Officer of UK Affairs of USST.
On behalf of the College Executive team, Professor Tian Weifeng extended a warm welcome to Dr Pilsbury and his colleagues and reviewed the development process of Coventry-SBC cooperation.
Professor John Wilson, Principal and CEO of SBC, gave a brief introduction on the recent development of SBC and its plan of activities for the future as outlined in its strategic plan. The meeting was attended by Professor Linda Liu, Vice-Dean of SBC, Dr Liu Bin, Secretary of the Joint General Party Branch and Deputy Director of Campus Management Committee, USST and Dr Christine Mortime, Director of Academic Quality and Business Development.
In response, Dr Pilsbury described the achievements of Coventry University as one of the world’s great engineering and design universities,particularly in the automotive field, for professional and vocational courses and applied research. It is also rated 12th University in the United Kingdom in The Guardian University Guide 2018.
Following a visit to the main campus of SBC, Dr Pilsbury highly recognised the success achieved by SBC in all aspects and agreed that Coventry and SBC would explore the potential for further collaboration on international students, research partnerships and scientific research cooperation.
