A Warm Welcome to New 2017-18 Students

This autumn, a new cohort of Chinese and international students arrived at the Sino-British College, looking forward to a brand new and wonderful university life. The Welcome Ceremony was hosted for all new students on the 14th of September. Professor Tian Weifeng, Vice-President of USST, Professor John Wilson, Principal and CEO of SBC, Dr Liu Bin, Secretary of Joint General Party Branch, Fuxing Campus, Professor Liu Qin, Vice Dean of SBC, Dr Christine Joan Mortimer , Principal Lecturer and Director of Academic Quality and Business Development of SBC, including Gordon Callan, Head of the School of Languages, Education and Cultures and academic team and administrative staff all attended the ceremony to offer the warmest welcome possible to the students  joining our big family – the Sino-British College.

The Welcome Ceremony started at 10am and began with an official introduction video about SBC College. Professor Tian Weifeng, Vice-President of USST, extended a warm welcome to all new students, academic team, administrative staff and visiting guests.

Three student representative speakers,  Shi Zhijian (Year 2, Industrial Electronics and Control Engineering), Yu Haoyuan (Year 2, Business Management) and Arailym Assylbekova (Kazakhstan, Year 3, Business Management) shared with the audience their excitement at the opportunities offered by SBC and their raised expectations as to their future university life at SBC. 

Shi Zhijian, from Year 2 Industrial Electronics and Control Engineering, the president of SBC Student Union, said: “Responsible leadership is a sense of responsibility, persistence, and communication. These are the key qualities that an outstanding leader should have. As freshmen of the university, we should work towards the three overarching themes of SBC, and learn to use.”

Yu Haoyuan, Year 3 Business Management student, shared his experience of building an innovative start-up from 0 to 1. He said “Before stepping into collage, I was afraid of the saying that ‘college is the preparation of getting hired’. However, as the leading Sino-foreign cooperation educational institution, SBC dares not to be conservative. The campus is filled with young and innovative atmosphere.”

Arailym Assylbekova, Year 3 international student from Kazakhstan said in her speech, “Looking back to the time when I was struggling with choices where I wanted to study, now I realize that I definitely made a right choice. SBC’s cross-cultural environment creates not merely good learners but also good people.”

Professor John Wilson, Principal of SBC, shared the joy of success jointly achieved by everyone at SBC with the full support of all partners in the UK and China and committed that SBC will continue to enhance the quality of the student experience. 

Finally, the Welcome Ceremonies were ended with the freshmen representatives show.
