SBC hosts 2016 Awards Ceremony and New Students Art Performance

On 22 December 2o16, the SBC 2016 Awards Ceremony and New Students Art Performance was successfully held. Professor Tian Weifeng, Vice-President of the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology (USST) and Dean of the Sino-British College (SBC), Wang Zhihong, Vice- Minister of Organization Department of USST, Professor John Wilson, Principal of SBC, Liu Bin, Secretary of Joint General Party Branch and Deputy Director of Campus Management Committee, Fuxing Campus, USST, Professor Liu Qin, Vice-Dean of SBC, Dr. Christine Mortimer, Director of Academic Quality and Business Development of SBC, together with staff representatives and over 400  students joined this event.

The Awards Ceremony started with a musical instruments performance and a video of the 10 years history of SBC. Following the performance and video, Party Secretary Liu Bin gave a brief introduction to the background and process of the Awards Ceremony and expressed congratulations to all winners and encouraged everyone to work even harder to achieve further success in the future. Professor Tian Weifeng, Professor John Wilson, Liu Bin, and Professor Liu Qin presented National and Municipal scholarships, Principal’s Scholarship, Social Contribution Scholarship, Social Practice Scholarship, Business Practice Scholarship, and Academic Excellence Scholarship respectively.

The scholarship evaluation for academic year 2015/16 has attracted a great deal of interest. Following the selection procedure which involved an initial review, online voting and then final presentations, 2 students, Lin Dian and Hu Zhihao, and a student society, “Heart & Hope Aid Education Team”, won the individual awards.

To encourage all-round development, a campus-wide appraisal of “Fuxing SBCers” was carried out to give official recognition to students with excellent achievement in social service, innovation and business practice and arts and sports in the year of 2016. Individual students and student groups who made outstanding contribution to the development of SBC are all eligible to join the appraisal. After the evaluation process of voting and presentation, three projects and individuals won the honorary titles of "Star of Innovation”, “Star of Social Contribution” and “Star of Cultural Communication”. Dr Christine Mortimer, Director of Academic Quality and Business Development of SBC, presented the awards to students.

Following the Awards Ceremony, an arts performance was given by some talented Year 1 students who newly joined SBC this September.
