On 12 December, Dr James Abbott, Head of the School of Engineering and Computing was invited to visit the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) in Beijing.

Registered as a charity in the UK, the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) is the largest multidisciplinary professional engineering institution internationally with a worldwide membership of over 167,000. The IET has the authority to establish professional registration for the titles of Chartered Engineer, Incorporated Engineer, Engineering Technician, and ICT Technician, as a Licensed Member institution of the Engineering Council.

On the visit, Dr Abbott met with Ian Mercer, Head of International Operations, and Joseph Du, Head of China Office, IET. The purpose of the meeting was to lay groundwork for possibly moving forward with IET accreditation in the future for the Liverpool John Moores University Engineering courses offered at SBC.

Dr Abbott said: “IET Accreditation would be a great asset to the School of Engineering and Computing, SBC and USST, our UK partner schools, and importantly for all of our students. The meeting provided valuable information about the steps and resources needed to achieve this goal in a timely manner.”
