On 29th October, as USST celebrated its 110th anniversary, SBC welcomed our alumni to join in our Responsible Leadership and International Talent Development Alumni Salon, to celebrate this exciting moment in our history. Professor John Wilson, Principal and CEO of SBC, Liu Bin, Secretary of the Joint General Party Branch, Fuxing Campus, Dr James Abbott, Head of the School of Engineering and Computing, Gordon Callan, Head of the School of Languages, Education and Cultures, and alumni as well as representatives of teachers and students joined in the event.
Professor John Wilson opened the event by making a speech to congratulate the achievements of USST during the past 110 years. Responsible leadership is one of the overarching themes of SBC, and SBC has achieved great success along with USST over the past 10 years. According to Vision 2025, SBC and USST will keep sharing the achievements of sustainable development in the future. Liu Bin, Secretary of Joint General Party Branch, Fuxing Campus, put forward the concept of the campus family. The university should be like a big family, alumni are our family members, and therefore we could support each other to build an international campus.
The Responsible Leadership and International Talent Development Alumni Salon was officially opened following a showing of USST’s 110th anniversary video and SBC’s celebration video. Afterwards, we had two excellent alumni, Yi Zhang and Jinfeng Tang, who both presented their career success in their industries, which was proven to be closely connected to the education they received at SBC. Wang Yan, a Year 1 students’ tutor and team leader of ‘2016 SBC Responsible Leadership Training Camp’ announced that the training camp was successfully accomplished, thanks to the outstanding organisational ability and great team working ability shown by the participating students. Student representative Mingxiao Pang of the training camp also shared his feelings and thoughts after the camp and mentioned that he himself has learnt a lot from the programme. Finally, Jiayi Xue, member of the SBC Presidium and also Deputy of the Communist Youth League, shared her thoughts of the close working relationship between personal leadership and collective achievements through her previous work experiences at the student union.
At the event, students and teachers were also provided with the opportunity for networking and exchanging ideas with their best wishes to SBC and USST for a greater success in the future.
