2016 Student Responsible Leadership Training Camp Held Successfully

As an essential part of Vision 2025,responsible leadership, enterprise and innovation and cultural empathy are the overarching themes of SBC. In order to highlight responsible leadership, a training camp was successfully held at the Oriental Land Holiday Village in Shanghai on 23rd -30th September among new students of the 2016 intake.

On the 26th September, Professor John Wilson, Principal and CEO of SBC, Dr Liu Bin, Secretary of Joint General Party Branch, Fuxing Campus, USST, and other members of the academic and administrative teams also joined our students at the Oriental Land Holiday Village. In order to strengthen the cohesive force and team cooperation ability among students, a dragon boat race was held between 210 new students and 15 staff. Professor John Wilson fired the gun to start the race.

Professor Wilson gave high recognition for the team work and good spirit of all the new students during this visit. He also expressed his hope that students would develop good habits in the training camp, learn more from team work and apply this to their future study and life.

Dr Liu Bin also spoke with all students after the dragon boat race, saying: ”Regardless of victory or failure, to find out the real reasons behind victory or defeat, and to learn from each time, that is the main point and value of the existence of the team competition.”

On the 27th September, Professor Wang Lingyu, Deputy Party Secretary and Vice-President of USST, Zhou Tao, Deputy Director of Student Affairs of USST, visited the students at the camp on behalf of USST. Professor Wang spoke highly of the responsibility and leadership training camp of SBC, and praised it as a good way to show the positive spirit of SBC and of the SBC students. Through the talk with students, he expressed his expectation that everyone would complete this eight-day responsibility leadership training and enjoy the experience.

The initiative of the SBC Responsible Leadership Training Camp not only enhanced the physical fitness, team work awareness and cohesive force of students, but also showed the good spirit of SBC as a leading brand in the area of international higher education while highlighting responsible leadership as one of our overarching themes.
