This autumn, a new cohort of Chinese and international students arrived at the Sino-British College, looking forward to a brand new and wonderful university life. The Welcome Ceremony was hosted for all new students on the 20th of September. Professor John Wilson, Principal and CEO of SBC, Liu Bin, Secretary of Joint General Party Branch, Fuxing Campus, Professor Liu Qin, Vice Dean of SBC, Thomas Loeffler, Deputy Managing Director of Messe Muenchen Shanghai Co., Ltd., and the SBC senior management team, including Gordon Callan, Head of the School of Languages, Education and Cultures and Dr. James Abbott, Head of School of Engineering and Computing, and academic and administrative staff all attended the ceremony to offer the warmest welcome possible to the students joining our big family – the Sino-British College.
The Welcome Ceremony started at 10am and began with Hu Ziwei, winner of 2016 SBC T1 Scholarship, on behalf of all new students, sharing her experience and excitement of joining SBC: ” we are supposed to apply fantasy into practice, turn pressure into a motivationnal force and turn challenges into opportunities.” The 2016 SBC T1 Scholarship Programme attracted applications from a number of outstanding Chinese high school graduates. A T-week programme was also run from the 15th to the 19th of August for the purpose of helping participants to acquire knowledge and skills which will be of value for their future studies and careers.
Li Xiaoci (Year 2008), Bruno Gargerle (Germany, Year 4) and Xu Jiaqi (Year 4) shared with the audience their excitement at the opportunities offered by SBC and their raised expectations as to their future university life at SBC. Bruno Gargerle said: “Feeling in oneself the feelings of others”, illustrated the inter-cultural environment of SBC to all new students.
Professor John Wilson, Principal of SBC, shared the joy of success jointly achieved by everyone at SBC over the past ten years with the full support of all partners in the UK and China. He also remarked in his opening speech that SBC will continue to enhancethe quality of the student experience and said he believes the College will be even more successful in the next 10 years.
