The prestigious British Chamber of Commerce Shanghai British Business Awards 2016 will be held at a gala dinner on 3 November. Showcasing excellence in innovation and enterprise in the British and Chinese business communities, the British Business Awards are organised by the British Chamber of Commerce Shanghai every two years.
There are eight award categories including Education Institutional Partnership of the Year Award sponsored by the British Council. The Finalists for all eight categories were announced on 6 September and we are delighted to say that the Sino-British College (SBC) and the UK university partners from the Northern Consortium (NCUK) have been shortlisted for the award of Education Institutional Partnership of the Year. There are four other shortlisted finalists: Bangor University and CSUFT (Hunan); Coventry University and SWUPL (Chongqing); University of Nottingham Ningbo; Xi’an Jiaotong and Liverpool University (Suzhou).
Under the application criteria, the award had to be led by a UK university listed in the UKVI Register of Licensed Sponsors (Tier 4). On this occasion, the University of Huddersfield took the lead with the written support of the other eight SBC partner universities (Bradford, Leeds, Leeds Beckett, Liverpool John Moores, Manchester Metropolitan, Salford, Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam). The application focused on how the collaboration is a model of a highly successful educational partnership representing the best of British and Chinese education and offering a wide range of degree completion routes for students from all around the world.
Professor David Taylor, Pro Vice-Chancellor (International), The University of Huddersfield, speaking after the announcement said that SBC is a unique collaborative partnership between nine NCUK universities and a leading Chinese university, the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology (USST), and this uniqueness will have contributed to being shortlisted for a major international business award.
Professor John Wilson, Principal and CEO of SBC, said: “2016 is already an important landmark year, being the 10th anniversary of SBC and the 110th anniversary of USST. Being shortlisted for the Education Institutional Partnership of the Year Award is a great way to bring our celebratory year to an end. Whatever the outcome, being shortlisted is a great honour and a testament to the hard work and achievements of so many people in SBC, USST and our partners in the UK. I’d like to congratulate them on being shortlisted and also, on behalf of the College, congratulate the other shortlisted finalists and wish everyone good luck on the night.”
