As part of the 10th anniversary celebrations of the Sino-British College (SBC), an event was held in the UK on Friday 9 September at the historic Town Hall of Manchester City Council.

Hosted by Mr Ken Gill, Chief Executive of the Northern Consortium UK (NCUK), the event was attended by nearly 60 guests from partners in China and the UK, including Professor Hu Shougen, President of University of Shanghai for Science and Technology (USST), Professor John Wilson, Principal and CEO of SBC, and Liu Bin, Secretary of the Joint Party Branch and Deputy Director of the USST Campus Management Committee. From the UK partners, guests included Professor Chris Husbands, Vice-Chancellor of Sheffield Hallam University, Professor Colin Bailey, Deputy President and Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Manchester and Professor Ian Gow OBE, former Principal of SBC. Three SBC alumni who are just starting their careers were also invited and took centre stage speaking about their study experiences with SBC and UK universities.

SBC is a unique establishment in the world of Sino-UK Joint Venture higher education. It brings together nine leading NCUK universities and one Chinese partner, USST, to deliver a wide range of degree and pathway programmes.

Mr Ken Gill presented the special guests from USST and SBC with commemorative gifts at the event. “SBC is an example of sustained international partnership,” he said, “as trusting partners, we have learned from each other and shared best practice as acknowledged by independent reviews and reports by the UK Quality Assurance Agency and the Chinese Government. This is just the beginning of the next part of the journey for the ambitious development of SBC.”

Professor John Wilson, Principal and CEO of SBC, said: “I am extremely grateful to Mr Gill and his colleagues at NCUK and to all our UK partners and to USST for their outstanding support over the last 10 years. Everyone involved can be very proud of what has been achieved. SBC now has a great platform on which to build for the next 10 years.”
