The 2016 SBC T1 Scholarship Programme has attracted a number of potential students with top academic performance and excellent English language skills for applying. After a comprehensive evaluation process, over 40 students were offered places for the T-Week Programme, which was run as a key element of the T1 Scholarship Programme from the 15th to the 19th August. The final speech competition and the award ceremony were held on the 19th August.
There were 10 students shortlisted for the finals based on the result of the preliminary competition. At the finals, each student was asked to give a 10-minute presentation on a chosen topic. Out of the 10 finalists, SBC T1 Programme Top Scholarship was presented to Hu Ziwei from the Affiliated High School to Hangzhou Normal University and Yu Jihai from Ningbo Xiaoshi High School, Zhejiang Province.
The finals and the award ceremony was attended by Professor John Wilson, Principal and CEO,Professor Linda Liu, Vice-Dean, Dr. Vernon Sommerfeldt, Head of School-designate, Business and Management and the academic team and the student mentors of the T1 programme.
Apart from the core academic components delivered by EAP and subject teachers at SBC, participating students of the T1 Programme were also offered the opportunity to study with “student mentors” who were there to facilitate the learning process and share their personal experiences of studying at SBC. Yan Yiyi, who is studying Business Management at SBC, also the winner of the 2015 T1 programme, believes that, as a mentor, she can help new students in a constructive way both academically and culturally.
