SBC hosts 2015 Awards Ceremony and New Students Art Performance

The SBC 2015 Annual Awards Ceremony and New Students Art Performance was held in the Auditorium on the evening of 10th December. Professor Tian Weifeng, Vice-President of the University of Science and Technology (USST), Professor John Wilson, Principal of SBC, Liu Bin, Secretary of Joint General Party Branch, Fuxing Campus, Professor Linda Liu, Vice-Dean, Sabrina Yang, Director of Operations and Gordon Callan, Director of Teaching and Learning at SBC attended the event on behalf of SBC/USST and presented awards to students.

The scholarship evaluation for academic year 2014/15 started on 12th October. According to the result of evaluation, amongst the 506 scholarship winners, 412 students were offered Academic Excellence Scholarship, 33 for Social Contribution Scholarship, 51 for Social Practice Scholarship and 10 for Business Practice Scholarship. In particular, out of the 16 students who won Level 1 scholarships, based on the result of final presentation, four students were offered Principal’s Scholarship. They are Wang Yuyan, Lin Kaiyue, Zhang Bingqing, and You Jiamin.

The national and municipal scholarships were offered as the top academic scholarships to students with outstanding academic achievement. There are 9 students from SBC who submitted application for such top scholarship for the year of 2015. According to the result of evaluation, Sun Jiayi, Year 4 student in Electronic and Electrical Engineering and Cao Zhaozhen, Year 3 student in Industrial Electronics and Control Engineering have won the national and municipal scholarships respectively.

To encourage all-round development, a campus-wide appraisal of “Fuxing SBCers” was carried out to give official recognition to students with excellent achievement in social service, innovation and business practice and arts and sports in the year of 2015. Individual students and student groups who made outstanding contribution to the development of SBC are all eligible to join the appraisal. Launched on 12th November, the event has been promoted both online and offline with more than 7,200 hits on the internet, engaging current students, staff, parents, as well as the SBC alumni community. After the evaluation process of voting and presentation, three projects and individuals won the honorary titles of “Star of Innovation”, “Star of Social Contribution” and “Star of Cultural Communication”.

In his speech, Professor John Wilson, Principal of SBC expressed congratulations to all winners and encouraged everyone to work even harder to achieve further success in the future.

Following the awards ceremony, new students from the class of 2015 gave an artistic performance, which was organised and run solely by students. The high quality art performance was very well received by all staff and students.
