Senior Officials from the Chinese Ministry of Education visit SBC

On 7th December, Cen Jianjun, Head of the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges and Yan Bingchen, Head of the Division of Chinese-Foreign Cooperation in Running Schools at the Ministry of Education visited the Sino-British College (SBC) campus. The two senior officials were met by Professor Hu Shougen, President and Professor Tian Weifeng, Vice-President of the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology (USST), Professor John Wilson, Principal of SBC and other members of the senior management team at USST and SBC.

On behalf of USST and SBC, President Hu extended a warm welcome to Mr. Cen and Mr. Yan for their visit. He gave a brief introduction on the history and recent development of USST in teaching and research, in particular internationalisation of the University through the establishment of Sino-foreign Joint Venture institutions. President Hu thanked officials from the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges at the Ministry of Education for their continuous support for the development of international education at USST. Following President Hu’s remarks, Professor Ma Xiaoting, Director of the International Affairs Office at USST, Professor Shen Jianqi, Vice-Dean of Shanghai Hamburg College and Professor Linda Liu, Vice-Dean of the Sino-British College gave presentations on the current work progress and recent achievement in their own institutions.

Having heard the presentations, Mr. Cen gave extremely positive comments and recognition for the international development of USST, in particular the two secondary colleges, in terms of introducing educational resources from the foreign partners and providing top quality international education to students. Mr. Cen shared his observation and impression about the huge difference of the SBC campus between now and 10 years ago when he visited for the first time. He expressed that from its initial establishment till now, SBC has been developed into a genuine international institution with outstanding students and staff. He hopes that in the process of implementing the national strategy of ‘One Belt, One Road’ in China, the College could further improve the level and quality of the institution and contribute to the economic and social development of the country and the region.

After the meeting, Mr. Cen and Mr. Yan had a guided campus tour around SBC and then joined the academic heads of departments for afternoon tea in the English Tearoom on campus.
