According to the latest statistics from the SBC Careers Service and Development Centre, by the end of November, 98% of the 2015 SBC graduates who had studied on 4+0 or 2+1+1 pathways have successfully been employed or accepted by universities for further study. Amongst the 196 graduates this year, 62% of the graduates sought job placement and 36% pursued full-time postgraduate study in universities globally.
The Careers Service and Development Centre at SBC offers students a series of tailor-made career training sessions starting from Year 1. It has also established an extensive network with international and domestic employers to ensure that students are well prepared for employment through internships and placements prior to graduation. The offering of professional training on employment ability through internship and voluntary work reflects the SBC approach to education, where development of practice skills and hand-on experience is regarded as essential for students’ future success.
For the 122 graduates who sought employment, 44% of them were hired by leading foreign companies in China, 44% chose to work at private companies, 12% for state-owned companies. Compared to the 2014 figures, more graduates were employed by foreign companies, especially in the industries of advanced manufacturing, retail, PR and exhibition.
In terms of starting salary, with RMB10,000 as the highest offer from L’Oreal, the average monthly base salary for SBC graduates is RMB4,526, which is 22.5% higher than the average starting salary of RMB3,694 in Mainland China. Andy Fang, Industry Link Manager at SBC said: “This is good evidence that SBC graduates are very well received in the job market, not only because of their strong academic background, but also the cross-cultural and social skills that are developed throughout their learning experience at SBC.”
Amongst the 70 graduates who chose to pursue Master’s study after graduation, 67% of them were accepted by top universities in the UK, including Imperial College London, UCL, University of Edinburgh, University of Warwick, University of Leeds and The University of Sheffield. Another 10% were offered postgraduate places in universities in the US such as Johns Hopkins University and New York University.
A full report on 2015 graduates employability is currently being prepared by the SBC Careers Service and Development Centre. The report will be made available online once it’s completed in early February 2016.
