Initiated by the SBC Health, Safety and Security (HSS) Committee, a professional training on campus fire safety was conducted at SBC on Friday 27th November. The training was designed to raise awareness about fire safety on campus amongst all staff and students. Delivered by Li Yufeng from Wuxing Group, Xuhui Branch of Shanghai Fire Station, the training was joined by over 100 staff and student volunteers at SBC. In addition to introductory knowledge about fire control and fire prevention, volunteers were also taught about how to report a fire, how to escape and how to use fire-fighting equipment.
A fire alarm test was also conducted before the training, covering the main areas of student dormitories on campus.
At the training session, Mr. Li shared his experience about fire prevention in public areas and called everyone’s attention to possible fire hazards in universities, including classrooms, laboratories, computer rooms, dormitories and canteens. Different ways of fire escape and fire extinction were also given for different locations under different circumstances.
All volunteers were then invited to the sports ground where they were shown how to use a fire extinguisher properly.
Following the professional training, a campus-wide fire drill will be organised by the SBC HSS Committee on Wednesday 2nd December. The fire drill will be conducted by Wuxing Group, Xuhui Branch of Shanghai Fire Station with support from the USST Department of Campus Security. All staff and students are required to join the fire drill and have proper practice for fire escape.
