On the afternoon of April 24, the first convention of the student organization of Chinese-foreign Cooperatively-run Schools was held successfully in SBC. Representatives from student organizations of six Chinese-foreign Cooperatively-run institutions attended the convention. These were the Sino-German College of Technology, ECUST, International Business Management College of Shanghai University of Finance & Economics, Shanghai-Hamburg College of USST, School of Economics & Management of Shanghai Maritime University, SISU School of Economics and Finance and SISU School of Business and Management.
Tan Xueyin, student representative for the SBC Student Union, shared her thoughts about the position of a Student Union in an international college. She mentioned that the Student Union needed to have a sense of responsibility for providing service for the entire student-body. She also introduced a new approach of student autonomy called “1+X Committee Project-orientation,” based on her experiences of working at the SBC Student Union. To be specific, in this plan, students will be involved in daily student management like student residence administration and improvement of the learning environment with the help of teachers.
Representatives from other six invited institutions shared their opinions on the development of the student organization in international colleges. They also introduced events and activities organized by their student unions to exchange ideas and experiences with all participants. Eric Jin, tutor and consultant of SBC Student Union and Chen kaijian, director of External Affairs Solutions Group of SBC Student Union both gave a speech to the convention and said that they looked forward to holding continuous communications through Wechat group online.
Finally, all the representatives expressed that they wanted to strengthen contacts with each other and discuss opportunities and questions about the development of student organizations in the future.
