The First SBC Career Planning Competition Held Successfully

The First SBC Career Planning Competition was successfully held in 701 in the teaching building on 23rd April. The competition was hosted by SBC Career Service Department and organized by Year 4 No. 1 event management student group.

The competition aims to lead SBC students to make career plan proactively against the fierce competition in the contemporary labor market. Through the active participation in this English-speaking contest, the host wishes SBC students could win at the starting point and become promising staffs with global vision and competitive edge.

Initiated in late March, the contest requires each participant to elaborate individual career goals on the basis of self-recognition, industry analysis and action plan. Nearly 100 SBC students submitted career planning, and among them 30 pieces of work were selected to compete in the preliminary contest. The selected students were required to deliver a presentation to further illustrate their career plans. After the fierce competition in the preliminary, the top 10 students were given the ticket to the final round. Among the top 10 players, there were 5 freshmen and 3 sophomores along with the participation of international students.

Nearly 10 famous industrial elites were invited as the judges to provide professional advice for the 10 participants in the final round .The judges include Mr. Massimo NAVA,Head of the International Business Department in FESCO Adecco; Mr. Thomas Löffler,Deputy Managing Director in Messe Muenchen International (Shanghai) Co., Ltd; Ms. Lily Merkle Zhang,General Manager & Search Director in CBC Executive Search; Ms. Xuanxuan Guo,Director of Client Relations in  Alexander Mann Solutions; Ms. Gemma Ma,Manager of Strategic Recruitment & Employer Branding in Voith Corporate Management; Ms. Maggie Shen,Head of Human Resources in Hilti China; Ms. Christina Zheng,Head of Bosch China Charity Center; Mr. Kevin Sun,Chief Representative in GraduACE; Mr. Sooner Yang,Internet Consultant & Senior Trainer in Huawei; Ms. Maggie Mei,Director of Marketing Department in Raffles Academy of Arts

Each participant has depicted the blueprint for their future career plans either by rational or emotional approaches. Typically, the Year 2 Event Management student Bruno Paul Gargerle introduced his personal analysis in terms of leadership, team work, social responsibility and multilingual capability, presented his in-depth analysis of desired hospitality industry, and illustrated his detailed action plan to achieve his career goal. He was finally awarded 89 high score based on this excellent performance with professional slides.

Yuan Xiaohe, Year 1 Events Management Student, showed her great interests in the Event Management industry and her enthusiasm to work in this industry with the theme “I have a dream”. She was finally awarded the 86.2 high score based on her fluent presentation and smart answer to the questions from judge, regarded as one of the most challenging questions in this competition.

Wang tianli, Year 2 Engineering student, particularly emphasized his great passion for electronic devices and why he finally selects the mobile phone battery storage as his primary orientation for entrepreneurial activity. The judges were quite impressed by his ideas and suggested him to make great efforts on academic performance and entrepreneurship as well. All of the 10 participants have delivered excellent presentation with smart answers to the questions, which represents the outstanding logic thinking and language capability of SBC students.

Finally, Bruno, Year2 international student, won the champion, Yuan xiao received the second prize, and Wang Tianli held the third prize. The First Prize is provided by Fesco-Adecco. The winner will get the chance to have an interview directly with the CEO of Fesco-Adecco China in order to get an opportunity of taking part in the“CEO for One Month” program in Fesco-Adecco.2.The Second Prize Winner will be eligible for a Management Trainee Internship program in MMI, which is a great opportunity to gain first-hand experience in the events industry. The winner of Third Prize will be invited by our external career coach for a lunch, receiving guidance on career development.

The ultimate aim of this campaign is to motive all SBC students to engage more in making career plans for the preparation of future competition by presenting models of excellent career plans. Meanwhile, the involvement of industrial guests have enabled SBC students to attain more professional suggestion from employer side so as to fill in the gap between what employers require and what students should improve.
