On the morning of 14th April, Professor Shirley Congdon, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) of the University of Bradford visited SBC. Professor Congdon was accompanied by Dr William Mitchell, Director of International Development and Dr Karen Jackson, Development Director (China and East Asia).

Following the visit by Professor Brian Cantor CBE, Vice Chancellor of the University of Bradford in May 2014, the purpose of this visit was to strengthen the strategic links between Bradford and SBC and continue the discussion on exploring opportunities for further collaboration in teaching and research.

Professor Congdon and her colleagues were welcomed by Gordon Callan, Director of Teaching and Learning and other senior members of the academic team at SBC. At the meeting, the delegation engaged in wide-ranging discussions with the SBC team on how to deepen the academic cooperation between the two institutions and strategies for enhancing the learning experience of Chinese students studying in an international environment.

After a brief campus tour, the delegation met about 30 students in the SBC English Tearoom. These students are currently studying Split Degree (2+2) programmes at SBC and are about to go to the University of Bradford in the summer to complete their degree studies. Professor Congdon and her team extended a warm welcome to the students and introduced the learning activities, student experience and campus life at Bradford. The meeting also provided a good opportunity for the students to gain more knowledge about the support that they are going to receive upon arrival as well as during their two years’ study in the UK.

The University of Bradford is one of the nine leading UK partner universities of SBC. It enjoys an excellent reputation for its quality of teaching and for its provision for students.  The recent 2015 Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey shows that Bradford has achieved the highest rise in overall ranking of all UK universities, leaping into the top 50 by rising from 80th place in 2014 to 45th in this year’s survey.

Gordon Callan, Director of Teaching and Learning of SBC said: “The University of Bradford has been providing strong and continuous support for the development of SBC. The Bradford School of Management, as a world-class business school with Triple Accreditation, is always a popular destination for our students. I believe that our strategic relationship with Bradford will be strengthened with the joint efforts from both institutions.”
