Field Trip to Shanghai Symphony Orchestra

2015-03-2060

On the afternoon of 5th March, a group of SBC students took a field trip to visit Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, the first orchestral group in Asia to achieve a wide-ranging influence. It was also the first orchestral group to introduce and promote western music, the first musical group to perform Chinese orchestral music and the first music group to teach music to students, other many other firsts.

Students experienced the great combination of art and science through this trip. There are plenty of sculptures, paintings, creative designs and other fine art works at the main concert hall and at the orchestra’s small performance hall. Even in the lobby they have a specially designed ceiling named “Starry Sky”. The delicate sciencific design made this trip much more appealing. The orchestra is only six meters away from the nearest metro station. In order to avoid sound and vibration effects from the metro, a network of springs has been installed  under the main concert hall and small performance hall to have a buffer effect. There are over 300 springs in the main concert hall. Students also had the opportunity to play at being musicians in the Inter-active Experience Area.

This was the first time that SBC students had visited the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra. They all agreed that it was the unforgettable trip and expressed their wish to visit the orchestra next time soon.
