On 2-6 March, Professor Paul Latreille, Associate Dean for Learning and Teaching at the Sheffield University Management School, visited the Sino-British College. Professor Latreille was accompanied by Dr Huiping Xian, Lecturer in HRM/OB and Liaison for the SBC Programme.
The University of Sheffield is one of the core partner universities in the SBC consortium, and its tie with SBC has been further strengthened by the launch of its Business Management degree at SBC by the Vice Chancellor Professor Keith Burnett in Shanghai in 2010. The initial intake of 60 students for this programme, who were all top students in key high schools around China, were admitted by SBC in September 2011 and due to graduate this summer.
During the five day visit, Professor Latreille has met with members of the academic team at SBC who are involved in teaching on the Sheffield Business Management programme. He also met different groups of students who are currently studying the Sheffield programme at SBC. In addition, Year 1 students were offered an interactive lecture given by Professor Latreille, which was very well received.
On Wednesday afternoon, Years 1, 2 and 4 students on the Sheffield programme were invited to join a tea reception in the SBC English Tearoom on campus. Professor Latreille gave a general presentation on the Sheffield University Management School. Year 4 students who studied in Sheffield for a year, shared their experiences with Years 1 and 2 students with interesting stories on subject study, campus life and travelling in the UK.
As a world class research-led university, the University of Sheffield is renowned for its cutting edge research in Engineering and Architecture. The University has won the top prize of University of the Year at the 2011 Times Higher Education Awards.
Gordon Callan, Director of Teaching and Learning at SBC said: “Sheffield has been extremely supportive for the academic development at SBC by sharing resources for teaching and learning for our degree programme in Shanghai. The first cohort of students studying the Sheffield Business Management programme at SBC are due to graduate in July this year, which will be an important milestone in our cooperative relation with Sheffield. Therefore, Professor Latreille’s visit is timely and helpful for us to further develop our tie with Sheffield.”
