On the afternoon of 28th December, the 2014 SBC Alumni Homecoming event was held in the SBC English Tearoom. The event attracted more than 60 members of the SBC International Alumni Association (IAA) and special guests from various industries.

The annual Homecoming event has become an important occasion for networking with the most up-to-date information on career opportunities. Themed “Reconnection & Reflection”, the reunion event provided a good opportunity for SBC graduates to meet their former classmates and socialize with each other.

At the beginning of the event, on behalf of SBC, Sabrina Yang, Director of Operations extended a warm welcome to all alumni and distinguished guests from SBC’s corporate partners. The event was also attended by Gordon Callan, Director of Teaching and Learning and other senior academic and administrative staff at SBC.

A small inauguration ceremony for key members of the Alumni Council was also held, followed by an awards ceremony for Outstanding Alumni Achievement. Luo Sujian (Graduate of Mechanical Engineering, Class of 2014), Chief Secretary of the 2014 SBC IAA spoke in return on behalf of all the alumni present.

This year’s Outstanding Alumni Achievement award was given to Sheng Haojun (Graduate of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Class of 2014). Working as a Hardware Engineer at Delphi Electrical Centres (Shanghai), Haojun meets and talks to the current SBC students regularly, sharing his own experience and knowledge in career development. He has also appeared in a number of promotional events as ambassador, presenting a healthy and positive image of SBC students to the public. Moreover, with his efforts, SBC IAA has built up a close cooperative relationship with the Chinese Students and Scholars Association at Sheffield University. Having accepted the award from Sabrina Yang, Haojun said in his speech: “It is my pleasure to make contributions for the benefit of all students at SBC.”

In the brainstorming session, attended by senior managers and HR directors from multi-national companies, heated and thought-provoking discussions were held on the topic of “Is job hopping a career killer or savior?”. The panel of guest speakers analysed the opportunities and challenges of changing jobs based on their personal experiences. Inspired by the various arguments, the audience also participated in the debate by raising questions and sharing viewpoints.

Shiny Xia, Alumni Officer at SBC said: “We are very pleased to see that our alumni found the event inspiring and helpful for their career development. We do hope that more and more alumni will come back to visit us after graduation as SBC will always be a home to them.”
