On Monday 5 May, a senior academic delegation from the University of Bradford led by their new President and Vice Chancellor Professor Brian Cantor CBE visited the Sino-British College in Shanghai. The delegation was warmly welcomed by Professor Ian Gow OBE, Principal and CEO of SBC, Gordon Callan, Director of Teaching and Learning and academic heads from all divisions of the college.
Professor Cantor was previously President and Vice Chancellor of York University and a leading international scholar in Engineering. Under his leadership the University of York became multi-award winning top 100 universities. The delegation included Professor Jon Reast, Dean of the School of Management, Professor Richard Greene, Dean of Life Sciences, Professor Julian Chaudhuri, Dean of the School of Engineering and Informatics, Dr Pamela Bagley, Dean of the School of Health Studies, Dr William Mitchell, Director of International Development, Dr Karen Jackson, Director of the China Office and East Asia and five more senior academics from the University of Bradford.
This marked the first visit made by Bradford’s large group of academic and administrative staff to the SBC campus. During the visit, the delegation engaged in wide-ranging discussions with Professor Gow on how to further develop strategic relationships between the two institutions. The group also had a meeting with SBC academic staff, who introduced the teaching and learning methods at SBC, and dozens of SBC students currently applying to study at the University of Bradford. Professor Jon Reast gave a special presentation to introduce the School of Management of Bradford, one of the most prestigious business schools in UK.
Bradford University School of Management is an elite group of only 58 business schools in the world (fewer than 1%) to hold the triple accreditations of Equis (European Quality Improvement System), AMBA (The Association of MBAs) and AACSB (The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business), often referred to as the "Triple Crown". The School also ranks amongst the Financial Times (FT) Top 50 European Business Schools.
Professor Ian Gow, Principal and CEO of SBC commented: “The University of Bradford is increasing the numbers recruited from SBC and we believe, under its new leadership, Bradford will rise rapidly in the world rankings and expand the relationship from teaching into joint research with SBC and our host university USST. We look forward very much to further strengthening strategic higher educational cooperation with Bradford.”
