SBC Alumni Event – 2014 CSD Career Salon

On the afternoon of March 25, the CSD Career Salon was held at the SBC English Tearoom. The event was hosted by the SBC Career Service and Development Centre (CSD) with the help of Year 4 Events Management students. Li Chunhui, training instructor and former consultant at China Telecom’s Human Resource Department, was invited to this event. Furthermore, four excellent graduates of SBC, as guest speakers, vividly shared their career experiences and stories of overseas study through passionate and humorous speeches which were well received by all the audience.

Li Si, who graduated from SBC in 2008, now works at Standard Chartered after receiving his Master’s Degree at the University of Manchester. When talking about his study life overseas, Li Si gave many pieces of advice on learning, living and working. He also shared hisentrepreneurial story, encouraging all students present to pursue their own dream bravely.

Wang Guan was an SBC engineering graduate in 2006 and received his Master’s Degree at the University of Sheffield. He not only shared his learning experiences in engineering, but also talked about how to make career planning before graduation, mentioning the importance of self-positioning.

Zhang Yi, who graduated from the SBC in 2008, now works at Shanghai Electric Wind Power Equipment Co., Ltd after receiving his Master’s Degree at the University of London. Zhang Yi said that if you want to gain competitive advantages in the workplace in the first place, you need to understand corporation culture and make a full preparation before graduation. He mentioned that internship experience provided by SBC helped him get a clear picture of his career direction.

Luo Sujian, a 4th Year student at the SBC, has received a job offer from Shanghai General Moto. He gave valuable advice on job interviews in terms of showing confidently your passion for the job position and your competence.

Finally, Zheng Chunhui analysed and explained what kind of talent business corporations are looking for, and what sort of requirements they normally have. This career salon was a great success in promoting communications and exchanges among alumni, and helped students still studying at the SBC get to know more about career planning.
