On 24th January 2014, Ken Gill, Chief Executive of NCUK visited the Sino-British College, following his meeting with the President of the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology in the morning.

Ken was newly appointed as the Chief Executive of NCUK in November 2013, so his recent visit to Shanghai marked a new beginning of the cooperative relationship between the Chinese and British partners.

NCUK was founded by 11 leading British universities in 1987, including the nine participating in the establishment and running of SBC. It aims to facilitate collaboration between the UK member universities and overseas university partners for international students to study in the UK.

SBC’s nine UK partner universities work together to provide programmes for SBC Years 1 and 2 through NCUK. The universities own NCUK programmes and they finish the delivery of their degrees at SBC based on SBC years 1 and 2. In this way SBC is unique in China in being able to offer a choice of university degrees from different UK universities.

On behalf of SBC, Professor Ian Gow OBE, Principal and CEO welcomed Ken on his visit to the campus. Professor Gow gave a brief introduction on the recent development of SBC and said: “We are delighted to welcome Ken to SBC and we believe that his very considerable educational experience, in the UK and internationally, will be a major asset to NCUK and to SBC’s management council.”

Accompanied by Colin Wanmer, Deputy Principal of SBC (Academic), Ken was shown around the campus after the meeting. He was impressed by the academic facilities and learning environment on campus. He also appreciated the continuous efforts that SBC is making to further improve the campus infrastructure as well as student experience.
